[The feed clicks onto to show someone who is most certainly not human. Thane sets the device down on the desk and sits back, and the observant might notice a small faintly glowing holo in his hand. It depicts a human child with a dirty face, and a tooth missing from his wide grin.
For a few long moments Thane says nothing at all, and taps the holo against his knee.]
I could believe my appearance here truly an accident, however the contents of my locker give me pause. How is it a glitch in space-- perhaps a Mass Relay malfunction?- would result in not only my misplacement, but that of a select number of my things? Why only a small portion of my gun collection? Why not my prefured clothing? Why this holo? It's... it isn't logical.
[Seeming to get a hold of himself a little better, now...]
It is not impossible, but highly unlikely.
[Thane seems to then realize he's still holding the holo, and gives it a long look before tucking it neatly into the breast pocket of his uniform.]
I have no illusions; I do not imagine I am the only one with responsibilities to attend at home, nevertheless my appearance here is... troubling. There will be unfortunate fallout if I am away too long.
[His eyes drop briefly.]
To the point of my communication, then; I am a new arrival and would appreciate being informed (to the best of anyone's ability) of what is happening. I apologize in advance if I am forcing anyone to repeat themselves. Thank you.
[End feed.]

My most pressing question; how long will the disorientation last?
[... and, now that you mention it--]
Is the population of this ship predominantly human? Have you received any transmissions regarding The Reapers?
That... that is fortunate, I suppose.
[A thoughtful pause as his scaly finger touched his chin]
I imagine no one has yet discovered a way to contact home.

Have you learned everything yet, sir? Should you need to be informed further, I'd be glad to help.

Such as?

[Private]
I don't know how to get you back home. But I know we're here against our wills as replacement crew for the one that was here before.
Not sure exactly what happened to them.
[Private]
The ship seeks to supply itself an active crew? Perhaps it is driven by some manner of aggressive, rouge AI...
[and... lost in thought for a bit.
...
regardless.]
Has anyone ventured into the surrounding space to locate a vantage point? Perhaps we can learn what part of the milky way we're in... or if such a measure is even relevant.
And also, a question; why the lock on your comment? Not a fan of public discussion?
[Filtered] And then I'm reminded I'm using locks like at my other game...
[But he wouldn't rule out the rogue AI. AI's don't cause a whole lot of trouble where he's from, but it's still a possibility.]
I'm just the quiet type.
[He doesn't want to get in the habit of potentially discussing his knowledge of aliens in front of people that obviously aren't, even if they're here and know about them. Loose lips sink ships.]
[Filtered] S'all cool ^^
I've no issue with a private discussion; it was mere curiosity.

[ You're the alien with the terrifying junk that Dave is so not going to bring up on the public network. He's got at least that much of a sense of shame. ]
this is towel boy remember me??
just so you know lockers are indiscriminate yet picky
they sweep up the stuff you need with the shit youd rather shove out an airlock
like intergalactic dung beetles
case in point i got some chalk (useful) and a dead horse (fucking useless) the first time around

Also
Please understand
It is not within my habit to
brandish
myself
So openly to
...
Anyone.
It was uncomfortable for both parties.
That sounds ... needlessly random.

at least our cultural norms overlap that much
also in case no ones told you the jump happens every month
this was your first so next time you get to hop into the pod voluntarily
so itll be within your power to not go in skinny dipping
get that shit unbrandished and covered up proper
know what im saying??
and yeah thats my life right there needlessly random
no subject
Then I assume the stasis pods serve a purpose, if we must re-enter them?
I will take steps to ensure I am properly covered, yes.
no subject
it might as well be that
nude beaches dont count those are intergalactic neutral zones
and yeah
apparently the jump is when the ship goes pchooooo
and if youre not in a pod when it happens you tend to go the way of the squished spider
just a bit chunkier and with less spontaneous baby explosions

but most of them can be avoided if youre genre savvy or got common sense
unfortunately some people around here are massive idiots with their heads up their asses
cant be helped
re jump time
just line up near the pods/lockers one to two hours early
and you should be good
we had at least two people die via not being in gravcouches
and all they left behind was campbell chunky soup

Valuable information; thank you.

Right now though, when the video feed turns on, she looks kind of like a mix of wary and surprised. She looks like she's considering a number of things, before she finally speaks]
Beyond the name of the ship and the fact that most of us don't belong here, most of what's going on here is still an unknown.
I imagine efforts to escape have been fruitless, thus far?
It's a bad idea to wander around unsecured areas by yourself. Even without how easy it is to get lost, we recently discovered a lab full of mutated creatures that made husks look cuddly.
You are familiar with...?
[Thane frowns faintly; her voice is so terribly familiar]
I have the distinct impression that we have met.
I'm Commander Shepard. Probably... not the one you're familiar with. He used to be on-board but he's been MIA since the jump. [She's assuming there's only two different Shepards, so if Thane doesn't know her, obviously he must know the male one.]
[Thane seems momentarily dazed by the idea. But the voice, the tonality... he can't argue her; it seems so right.]
You are correct, in part. The Commander Shepard with which I am familiar is female, though her appearance was different. There are... similarities, however.
There is a male Commander Shepard, as well?

I've asked a lot of questions about who or what brings us here during the jump, but no dice.
Even among people who've been here longer, no one really has any answers.
Actually, we just wind up with more questions.
And there's a surprising number of people who're terribly resigned if not comfortable with life here.
Then some incident happens and jars these people's sense of security temporarily cause they usually just move on as if nothing really happened.
I'm guessing it's not because they're very complaisant or whatever.
It's more like things are generally pretty boring around here, so they just get used to it.
no subject
Hm, perhaps complacency is the aim of those who have brought us here.
Why then, would they desire a docile populace?
More questions, as you predicted.
Boring? I've been warned this place can be dangerous; is that inaccurate?
no subject
Someone suggested that who- or whatever brought us here is attempting to populate a space colony or small planet, but that person has since disappeared.
Guess that was a short-lived introduction.
Anyway, there are other theories, too. But that's all they are, man. Theories.
And of course this place can be dangerous. There's plenty potential for that, even in something as simple as getting lost in the corridors.
no subject
I find myself both gravely irate, and quite fascinated.
I would be very interested in discussing these theories
Assuming one might indulge me
And in the case of these imminent dangers
I assume it is wise to travel in groups?
And remain well armed at all times?
no subject
I've already been here for four months, but I can't say that I've been especially irate or fascinated during my stay here.
Guess I don't really mind indulging you, though any theories that I produce are like those from a bullet list.
Are you more interested in the backbone concepts over fully fleshed out ideas? Because the former's mostly what I've got.
Anyway, it's generally best to buddy up if only because the odds of getting lost seem to skyrocket when someone wanders alone.
And being armed or having some self defense knowledge is a plus.
Recently there's been some sort of monthly group gathering for testing or training unarmed combat skill.

there arethere is someone I can not afford to neglect. My discussion would be welcome. It seems I would benefit in finding myself a travel companion.
