It's incredible...

[ The video feed of the comm unit jumps to life - a vibrant mess of abundant green flooding the screen. The graphics jumble as she walks, feet a little unsteady on the overgrown soil of the Tranquility's untended oxygen garden. While the camera woman is off-screen, behind the device, there’s a laugh, a bit of disbelieving joy in her voice. An edge of teasing. ]

Whoever was left in charge of this was apparently fired for good reason. It's a mess in here. [ A pause, a bit of awe in her voice ] A beautiful mess...

There’s a lot of work to be done, which I know some of us have already started, but lucky for you I've got a life's worth of experience plus a couple degrees in weed-pulling. Not to say a few extra pair of hands wouldn’t be welcome.

[ She turns the camera to face her, Cory's bright smile taking up the screen. ] My name is Corazon - botanist formerly of the Icarus II. If anyone would like to help tending to this jungle, meet me in the oxygen garden whenever is convenient for you. Mace, Capa - for you it's required.

[ With the laugh in her tone slowly fading, sobering and being replace with a slight hint of unease. ]

The oxygen garden is the heart of this ship. It is our life support. It requires care and attentive hands. [ A pause, and she nods, a hand rested on her hip. ] We can’t have it forgotten like this.

[[ooc; feel free to respond with action or whatever else you please! /o/ FYI, I'll be a bit slow tonight ;; ]]

With a name like 'Orchid' I imagine she would be. She was another girl from the school? One of your friends?

She's my teammate, she's only been at the school for like, uhm, five years. She and her sister got kicked out of another place.

A friend, then? [ You deserve all the friends, you poor little awesome thing ;; ] Kicked out of another school similar to yours, or another place entirely?

Oh yeah, definitely. Like sisters. She's kind of... nervous, a lot of the time, so... I take care of her. I think Tauzin's program is like our school, but I don't really know, Mellie and Fauve don't talk about it.

No, but I can learn quickly. A lot of people don't seem to realize that.

Is there anything beyond personage that would lend aid to your task?

[ She pauses for a moment, thinking it over ]

How are you with running calculations? I'd like some estimates for the potential out-put the garden can handle, as well as a range for what would be needed with the ship's current population.

I am capable. [ his tone betrays equal parts curiosity and an open desire to help. ]

Would you prefer the calculation to be submitted in a public forum, or directed expressly to your communicator?

Man, I haven't seen something like that since... [his statement wanders off; he's not really one to talk about himself but that had been a close one. he smiles, play in his voice.]

Somewhere around 2050 would be the first I saw it.

[ A smile. She really, really is. And you have no idea how happy it makes her to be. ] No where else I'd rather be.

You said this thing is fueling oxygen for the entire ship?

[she sounds suitably impressed] We don't have anything like that on our ship back home... I'd like to help, if you don't mind amateurs.

[ There's a smile in her tone. It's a good day. ] Weed pulling is easy to teach, don't worry. Another set of hands would be greatly appreciated.

[she chuckles] Then you can count on me for weed pulling. Agent Carolina. Any specific time?

[ oh ariadne knows you. (not really) you're ~~fischers~~ capa's crewmate or something. you now are on her radar. sorry.

her voice hesitant, but the obvious curiosity is evident in it. ] How do you know so much about this garden here?

She answers easily, tone light. It's a really good day for Corazon. ] It's very similar to the one we had on board the Icarus II, however on a much grander scale. It was my irresponsibility to manage Icarus's.

[ oh just wait till she hears you call him robert. she obviously isn't sure what you all did to him yet. soo..she isn't sure what to make of you yet. :/

a hint of a smile can be heard in her voice then, as she can tell the woman seems happy about the topic. ] So you specialize in agriculture and whatnot then?

[ Oh look, it's the crewmate that doesn't rue my existence. An exhale, and then: ]

[ Come to Spacemom. She'll make you little heart-shaped sandwiches and punch Mace if needed. ]

Whenever you're free. [ There's a snicker that's trying to get held in here, and her tone gets a bit of a teasing edge to it. ] Don't forget to bring your little duckling along. [ The adorable little shadow you've acquired, that is. ]

[ It's nice, having a crewmate who doesn't want to wish you into nonexistance with every waking breath. ]

I don't really think it's optional at this point. [ If only he were capable of sounding fond, he probably would right about now. There's a pause, an obvious hesitation and then: ] Mace on-board too?

[ Which he asks solely for the purpose of avoiding him. The last thing he wanted was for a fight to break out in Corazon's garden. ]

I'm surprised you've been the one to pick up a shadow here. [ Though, between you and Mace, not much competition there. She pauses, noting the hesitation for what it is. ] He is.

[ Another bit of hesitation as she listens more carefully, taking note. ] Have there been any issues? [ With Mace or otherwise. ]

That makes two of us. But she's bright and insightful. You'll like her. [ A beat. ] She's been sleeping in the spare bed in my room for the time being. If you want to meet her.

[ Silence stretches as Capa weighs his options. He could tell Corazon about the fight for the sake of full disclosure, but he knows that won't accomplish anything beyond creating tension between her and Mace. He can only imagine she assumes as much out of the both of them. ] A few pointed discussions. [ At least a punch hadn't been thrown. But that's not saying there won't be. ] Probably best if we steer clear of one another for a little while.

Why do you want to clean it up? If it grew that way, doesn't that mean it's healthy?

Healthy, but unmanageable. There's a balance to these things that must be maintained. Growth is excellent, but the garden serves a function that can't be monitored properly if we're not sure what's happening where.

That makes sense, I guess. It's too bad, though. I thought it was nice the way it is. Like being out somewhere wild.

It is, though nothing on a ship can be wild. Not when it needs to operate with the machine. Perhaps I could leave a corner of it untamed.

I wouldn't want to ask for anything that would endanger our oxygen supply, but it would be nice if you could. The garden is a much prettier solution to the breathing issue than the one we developed back home.

[He hadn't been near plants very often before here. He was too big in his usual body and too likely to crush them, so he's just going to stare for a little bit at the green over Corazon's shoulder as he talks.]

Don't more plants make more oxygen? I thought they could grow unaided.

Hello. I'm afraid I don't have much experience with plants, but I can learn fast and I'm willing to help.

[ Bella has her hair mostly managed by now, and she's... considering what to say, so she's biting down on her lip. Of course she knows she's activated the video feed, so she makes herself speak, if that consideration and pause is still notable. ]

I've done some gardening over the years. If you can really use the help, then maybe...? If any of the excess is edible, I can probably help with making that into something people can eat. I'm pretty good at that.

[ Still uncertain what, if anything, she's supposed to really do. Handling responsibilities means deciding on those responsibilities, and she still hasn't. Things were tough! ]

[ Oh. well. There goes his plans for gathering the black market in the oxygen garden and perhaps having a smoke there. ]

What would the purpose be in managing them?
