[ It's been over two weeks since Dean's put in an appearance on the network. A medium-scale demon infestation, working alongside your supposedly dead mother from the past to get rid of them and the arrival of the little brother you thought was in Hell can do that to a guy. But Dean's not really one to bitch and moan. The awful alcohol he's been working through at night has been taking care of that. He's also not one to go into any great detail over how genuinely glad he is that most people scraped through okay. That he'll express by being a little less of an asshole than usual.

This isn't a social post to the network, no questions about bodyshots to be seen, this time. Dean isn't part of the Welcome Committee for very good reasons, but it doesn't mean he can't actually offer up a little peace of mind for the new people. Yeah, make the most of this. It won't last. ]

For any of you newbies up here... [eloquent, as always,] this ship's got a Security team. I noticed a few people are askin' about family or friends and whether they're here too. Before you go wonderin' off lookin'? Keep in mind the second you get outta range of where we've already explored you don't have a snowball's chance gettin' back. [It took him three weeks the one time he went looking for survivors and that almost drove him crazy.]

You got a problem? Come talk to us. [He doesn't go as far as saying "we're here to help" out loud but... that's what he's implying.]

Everybody on this freakin' ship owes you whether they realize what you did or not. [ There's a pause as he clears his throat. This isn't easy... he doesn't do motivational or heartfelt speeches. ] But I know what you did. And I won't forget. You got my thanks.

Outside of that little fiesta we had with the demons... been noticin' a lot of people arrivin' and askin' where family members and friends are. I'm guessin' most of 'em are just confused because it's not like any of us had anybody here to hold our hand when we arrived. But just in case people are lost up here... eyes and ears open. Take names. Ask questions. Last thing we need right now is people wonderin' off lookin' for their family and not comin' back. Especially if they're right and they do have family and friends already here.

We're responsible for keepin' the peace. [ Or as close to peaceful as the Tranquility ever gets. Ironic, right? ]

Defendin' the ship from external and internal crap. Makin' sure all rules and regs are followed. [ Though anybody who has half an eye for reading people can probably tell that Dean Winchester? He doesn't follow half of those rules and regulations by any stretch of the imagination. Really, all that matters to Dean is his summary: ]

( It's okay, she's noticed how hot she is, too. ~~:'D~~ If she knew Dean at all, she'd appreciate the effort. The poor chap might be doomed for some eyerolling, later on.

At any rate, that sounds familiar, comforting, really, and she nods as she listens. ) Those all sound like very admirable things. I suppose you could say I do something somewhat similar back at home.

( Although she needs to determine more information from Hotcakes, first. ) Sorry, I've been horrible at introductions. Starling.

( She'd shake his hand, but alas. )

Lost? [ ... Does not sound good. ]

Winchester. [ And then Dean remembers he isn't the only Winchester on this ship now by a long shot. Goddamn family showing up when he thought he had only demons and space to deal with. ]

Dean Winchester. [ He waves a dismissive hand at the apology because he doesn't need one. He gets it. She's new and this is all... well, he's not exactly big on manners anyway. ]

You did? We're always lookin' for more people who're qualified enough. [ He might not be officially military-grade but he was raised a goddamn soldier. That and his hunting experience serves him and this ship well. ]

Hold up. [ He starts messing with his device until he finds the file he's looking for, sends it across to her with the connection they already have established. ]

Yeah. 's a nice way of puttin' it. [ There's a pause as he remembers he's trying to be responsible and not a total douche. ]

You lost someone?

No. [ Quietly. If anyone of Arda comes, he will know. ]

You spoke of people losing their way if they went off to certain areas of the ship.

[ Oh. That. ]

We had some trouble with the hallways a couple months back. Kept trappin' people and not lettin' 'em get back to where they wanted to go. Took me three weeks to find my way back after I found all the survivors. [ There's a pause where he clumsily slips into memories he knows he ought to have buried deeper. Being lost with little hope of getting back is... something he never wants to remember with any clarity. ]

The hallways've been behavin' since then but... no guarantee it won't happen again. Least if you're in mapped territory we got half a chance of findin' you.

[ Priorities: ]

[SOBS. TOO LATE, MR WINCHESTER, this one's already gone out doing exactly that. He doesn't look too worried, though.]

[ Dean's thanks - whilst undoubtedly genuine and very much appreciated - don't seem to do much to make Hotspur feel particularly proud or heroic. In fact, the whole ordeal has made him feel pretty much the opposite: useless, guilty and just a little bit scared.

When he pulls his thoughts in order he thumbs the reply button on the device without actually knowing what it is he particularly wants to talk about. Some kind of reassurance, maybe, although he knows that Dean probably isn't the most ideal person to look towards for that. ]

Dean, you got a minute to talk?

[ Don't sweat it, dude. Dean's not in the mood to point out your strange priorities anyway... ]

Yeah, there's a map. But people are morons.

[ Dean doesn't have a facepalm big enough, Bass. ]

What've I got?

[ Any other day and maybe Dean would be snorting his amusement and being less than kind in response. Today -now- he's already in a certain mindset. Responsibility is the name of today's game.

He flips his device to video and nods his acknowledgement the second he knows Hotspur can see it. It helps that Hotspur's one of the guys that first private filter was addressed to. As far as Dean's concerned he's talking to a bro. ]

( She's already checking out the file, but the amendment to his introduction does earn a bit of a smile. ) It's nice to meet you, Dean.

( Although, his question - you did? - very much the past tense, rather than the present, that gives her pause when she considers it too much, before she dismisses it. ) I'm a ranking officer in the fleet. Galactic conflict, pirates. ( Hmm. She closes the file, and her attention returns to Dean. ) Training new recruits. Lots of drama and heroics, very exciting.

( A little sigh, and she runs her hand through her hair, giving herself a moment to think. ) It's incredibly tempting to throw myself into something just for the sake of actually doing something useful, but I'll need to confer with one of my men, first. He's more familiar with the lay of the land, here. Hotspur, do you know him?

[It's been a long few days, and Sam's done pretty much nothing but sleep and take walks around the ship. Either way, the broadcast seems to trip something in his memory.]

Someone mentioned the Security team to me when I first showed up. I'd like to help out.

[Because he needs some way to occupy his time, to get himself out of his own head.]

This is goin' to seem like a real awkward bunch of questions, but... [ Hotspur's gaze momentarily connects with Dean's over the video feed before quickly flitting away and fixing on something off-screen. ]

Before you got in to the whole... demon fighting thing. Did you have much religious belief?
