[ this is unusual at best, but john watson is the adapting sort. he has to when his best friend (arguably. loathing as he would be to admit it) is sherlock holmes. this is simply part and par for the course. for the most part, he has kept a low profile, asking questions to find out pertinent information. and even figured out how to use this little device. sort of. it's like a handheld typewriter. fascinating.

except he doesn't know it broadcasts out to everyone. w h o o p s. ]

The imagination is a powerful tool.

Except I cannot help but wonder if this is less imagination and more hallucination. Last I remember, I was at home in the study and the next moment--as if reality itself had shifted--I was covered in an unidentifiable substance. Blue in color, nearly gelatinous in texture but washed away cleanly in the showers. No visible harm, no internal damage from what I can assess. Curious, really.

From what I have gathered this is a ship in space. Seems highly far fetched to me. How is a ship able to move through air and no water? Something does not ring right about this place, as if a mystery is unfolding down each strangely dark corridor. Even some odd demon-like possessions as it were. Surely a place worthy to keep Holmes busy for at least a week.

[ on the other end of the device—and he'd INHERENTLY disagree if anyone saw. but there's almost a nostalgic sort of smile that passes over his lips. but then it's gone nearly as quickly as it came. ]

Too bad you have to miss this, old chap.

[ ...'Surely a place worthy to keep Holmes busy for at least a week.'

Holmes.

Of course his eye catches upon the name, just as his ear had when it was spoken to him by a scruffy, battered man with the ragged edges of a meathook's departure still evident in his chest. The name 'Holmes' has become associated with this sort of man, but it's been a developed thing. It's possible that whoever it is could mean Sherlock, but the way it's typed implies a sense of intimacy, and there are only two possible people who John knows capable of the expression... And he's never been given over to the thought of Lestrade being a secret romantic -- or without the rudimentary knowledge of how things float in space, for that matter. ]

ah, and humbling as ever, doctor.

[ Or cross? Angry, even? But he's replying, which is a good sign. Better than nothing. It's been too long since he's had to pontificate on the idea, of where he'd left the two of them, before he'd been rudely shoved onto this ship. It's been several months without Watson - without his Watson, he should say, which doesn't lessen John any but he feels the need to make a distinction between them - and he hasn't a clue how long anything has been for the doctor. ]

[ Judging by the weight of his prose, he can begin to wager guesses. But it's mere conjecture. ]

[ It's only after a manner of hesitation (uncharacteristic) and pause (nerves), before he makes his way straight to the room in question. The walk is brisk and hurried, as if it's before he can convince himself differently. He's come a long way from hiding behind grav beds in anticipation of seeing a familiar face there and quite cross with him. ]

[ And his knuckles wrap sharply on the door. ]

So overdramatic. This is hardly insanity.

[ irene can afford to be blase. she's been here too long. ]

It's some manner of ship, I'm told.

[ also mad at you brb ]

And the most technology we've previously is a damned telegram; these devices are a step or two or twenty beyond my own grasp, let alone his.

To tell the difference won't take long at all, but it's a matter that you can't begin to understand, let alone one to make light of.

[ Assuming it is Holmes, the name he's come to associate with dark eyes and uneven fingers that twiddle the violin like a girl worries her hair (fingers of a man who has fought for years and with scars to prove it), the list of possibilities are short. One, really.

'Too bad you have to miss this, old chap.'

Come on, John, everyone else has reached the right conclusion. Selective ignorance is really not very becoming. Sherlock would have something nasty to say. ]

So perhaps this is why your Holmes specifically made me promise to wear clothing when he and I met.

[ SO MUCH AMUSEMENT how narcissistic is it if she says irene is her favorite... ]

[ In the end, he settles on something useful. ]

Gravity is what keeps things stuck to the ground and gives them weight.
There's no gravity in space, so everything in it floats.
Otherwise, how do the planets stay up in it?

[ There's the split second after the door opens where Holmes sees the hit coming - sees the lines in his face, the coil to his fist, the subtle way his shoulder rolls back before a blow. He knows body language, and he knows incredibly well when John Watson is about to throw a well-aimed punch, and he- lets it strike. ]

[ Harder than he expects, even when he calculates the taut muscles underneath his clothing, the practiced punches he's given plenty a foe before, and his head rears back - he has to clutch at the doorframe to keep from stumbling. There's probably a large part of him that feels that's very well-deserved, and so he doesn't say a word otherwise, just quietly and gingerly pinches his fingers against the bridge of a likely broken nose and steps into the room with a faint nod as instructed. ]

[ There's already blood starting to sluice down his face when he breaks into a cheeky - if tired - smile. ]

Always nice to see you, Watson.

Perfectly adequate.

Well, to be absolutely impartial -
they wouldn't feel ridiculous if they were keeping up to the conversation.
You employ quite the embellishments with your writing.
No wonder people think we're gay.

Has anyone given you the welcome kit?
