[ The communications device is switched on, the picture on the screen shaking for a moment as he turns it over, checks it's on, and pulls it back to capture enough of him sitting at the edge of a bed in the basic passenger quarter. There is a pile of folded up red, white, and blue, the Captain America uniform especially made for him and his needs sitting beside him, the shield lying beside it, which he pats occasionally as if to ensure that they are still there, holding onto what it is that makes him who he is, the belongings for the world he knows.

His expression is as bemused as his voice sounds when he finally speaks. ]

This is Captain Steve Rogers of the - [ There's a pause, a false start, because he's actually part of the SSR, but as it's top-secret he swallows it back. ] - US military, pulled away from the middle of duty, and I need to find a way to be transported back there immediately. [ The confusion is replaced by something more confident, stern, and with an air of authority. ] Lives depend upon my return. I have a war to help win and I intend to do everything possible to make sure that happens.

[ The video feed shakes, the audio muffled as his hands shift around the device, the microphone picking up the interruption, and he looks around the room, so small and basic, and with another bed besides the one he assumes to be his. And then he looks down to the clothes he's been instructed to wear, the number on his arm, which he holds up and makes a point to show. It reminds him of some of the horrors that he saw in the concentration camps, the branded numbers upon their victims, turned into numbers. ] And I don't appreciate being referred to as a number, I have a name and I intend to keep it. Even the soldiers out fighting for their country are recognised by name alongside their ID number.

[It couldn't be. She had thought about the possibility of him coming here after hearing that people could arrive after their death. Even so, she is in shock and when her feed comes on, he'll be greeted with an emotional looking Peggy.]

I'm sorry to be bearer of bad news, considering, but one, you're on a ship and there is no way of going back, and two, the number's not used to address you.

[ He takes a closer look at the device, stands to attention as soon as he catches sight of her on the screen, both surprised and concerned. ]

What's going on? Are you okay?

[ He looks at the screen, sits up straighter as the woman comes onto the screen, respectful despite everything. ]

I'm sorry, ma'am, but a ship where?

In space, somewhere. That's all I know, I'm sorry.

[Keeping it together is difficult and she doesn't want everyone to see her like this so Peggy privatises the feed.]

I'm fine, yes. It's better explained in person. Where are you?

[ He takes a look around, nothing standing out either inside or outside of the room, and then he remembers to check the number hanging there that matches the one on his arm, mind pulling in every direction despite how focused the serum allows him to be at his best. ] Room zero-two-seven.

[ He stands, the video feed dropping to a less flattering angle, but he seems to be taking this well enough considering. ]

There's no way back.

[ There's a hint of a smile, but it's half-hearted, and it doesn't quite reach his eyes. He leaves the door wide open, goes back to sit on the edge of the bed to wait patiently. ]

[ Tommy's conflicted feelings about the American military fall heavily under "Let's not even go there," so even after the video flicks on there's a long pause before he actually gets around to saying: ]

[ She is not so much a young woman as she is a girl still on the cusp of womanhood. When Alayne speaks it is with restrained curiosity, the whole image dipping with a slight bow (as is the custom of her homelands). ]

A soldier, so freshly taken from the field of battle, and yet so eager to return? [ Her eyebrows lift. ] You must be quiet brave, ser, and valiant. [ There are no true knights; Alayne believes that. But every so often she hopes that she is wrong. ]

[ It's a curious sort of moment, and Charles is sympathetic to his plight; the idea that others might depend upon him. Charles has been fretting about the same sort of thing, but according to the others he's spoken to that might not be as big of a problem as he originally believed. Charles breathes out a sigh and tries to offer what he thinks is a comforting smile, ]

I don't think time moves much without us, I cannot be sure but I've heard things of a similar nature. [ A beat, ] That said I've yet to come across anyone who knows why we're trapped here, how we got here or even how to get home.

[ An eleven year old greats you, smiling somewhat. ]

I think the number's more for room and locker assignments than what we're referred to. [ As for the rest of it... There's a part of October that wants to say it's possible he's dead back home and that there won't be anything for him to go back to, but she can't just assume that about everyone here. Just because it's the case for her doesn't mean the entire ship is full of should-be-dead people. ]

You're not really going to get very far with asking to go home, either. Whoever - or whatever - brought here isn't exactly the listening type. Sorry.

[Peggy doesn't say anything, she just cuts the feed and runs towards his room, not stopping for anyone or anything. She needs to see him and she isn't going to waste anytime in getting to where she wants to be.

When she arrives at his door and enters the room, Peggy is breathless, unable to speak for sometime. Again, she has no words, she just comes over to him without warning and pulls him into an embrace. It's a little awkward because he's sitting and she's standing, but the meaning is definitely there.]

[ The hug takes him off-guard at first, arms flailing out awkwardly, as if he isn't sure what it is he's supposed to do with them, and then he's putting them around her, hesitant movements, but he leaves them there once he's done it.

He draws in a deep breath, breathing in her scent, and he relaxes, the tension visibly leaving his body, his cheek pressed against her middle. ]

Never thought I'd see you again.

[She doesn't mind in the slightest, allowing him to take all the time he needed to adjust to her sudden movements. Peggy feels happier when his arms wrap around her and she knows for certain that Steve is real and here with her.

One of her hands slides up to cup the back of his head and she holds him close to herself, visibly exhaling against him.]

I'd never thought I'd see you again either, Steve.

[ He indulges in the moment far longer than he means to, knows he should probably pull away, be a gentleman about it, but when her hand is there, warm and comforting, he closes his eyes and sighs. ]

Guess I'm late for our date, huh?

[Peggy could stay like this for a lot longer than necessary but a part of her doesn't give a damn. They both needed this and she wasn't going to end it anytime soon.]

Yes, but I don't care. You're here now.

[ whatever. thor doesn't have a lot to offer but. he's going to chime in with something useless. ] The numbers are merely a means of assignments, not so much as a new identity. Not appreciated the way it was done, but they appear to be rather permanent.

[ He does pull away, though, not by much, but enough so that he can look up at her, forehead still knotted up. ]
