(( OOC: Okay, so this should be pinging any literature lovers, puzzle-solvers, bible-readers, and demons.

The first two lines are from Shakespeare, the first being from the Tempest (incoming shitstorm) and the second from King Richard III, the full line being:

"And thus I clothe my naked villany
With odd old ends stol'n out of holy writ,
And seem a saint, when most I play the devil."

So this is a teehee between learned demons and probably says 'hi, this is a code' to anyone else.

Mentioning heretics and cages of fire will say Dante's Inferno to lit lovers, because the punishment for heretics in that is a cage made out of flame. It's also the fifth ring of Hell, so 5 may be an option. And it goes on to mention Limbo and Gluttony, which are 1 and 3, respectively.

For demons, this is less complicated, because demons aren't complicated. Basically it's saying they're free from Lucifer, but Crowley is still around (and reminding them he stopped them all from dying by throwing the Winchesters out) and he's got a plan. And if they want in, they're going to have to show themselves on video ('your wickedness is clear to me' - he can see if you're a demon). There's also the warning that there are people on board who know about them, so... come to papa?

Vepar's never been keen those sort of tactics himself, even though he's more than capable of them. No, instead he's matter of fact and to the point, which is why as soon as the message is broadcast over the Network, he's responding. ]

He'd begun playing with a soliloquy before he decided that the true recipients of the message weren't likely to appreciate iambic pentameter, and a fire and brimstone charade wouldn't hold up so well if there was poetry involved. There's a learning curve to be indulged.

Glasya-Labolas receives one King of Hell for his efforts, narrow-eyed and playful. A keen observation will also reward the demon with a peek of the room behind him, walls scored with so many black marks. ]

Impressive. [ Erik cants his head backwards, baring his teeth in what generally constitutes as his failed attempt at a shark grin. Any other circumstance, the encryption isn't feasible for his own abilities, but he has a demon running loose inside of him, far too pleased with the situation tasked to him. ]

And in return, I offer you the notion that something wicked this way comes.

[ You can hardly blame the guy for being a little grumpy, can you, Crowley? He'd been on the winning team for how long, only to have to cut his losses and run. Still, Vepar isn't the type to hold a grudge. No, he simply keeps on swimming, ahead of the tide of all the other fish. And the tide belongs to Crowley now (or will be, if Vepar keeps backing him). ]

It's really Erik's entire past that makes him such an ideal subject, the years of torture he underwent and the grief he's carried, converted into pure vengeance, but the fact that Erik isn't such a weakling either is a bonus that makes him all too irresistible. ]

Someone's putting in a lot of work in. You know, there's no overtime pay in Hell.

[ Oxford's customary headache following the jump has been entirely more bothersome than usual, despite the gift of pain killers from Aberdeen. He tells himself that it's nothing, that perhaps it's just a side effect of being away from space for an extended period of time. There isn't anything suspicious - or demonic, perhaps - about it. He has been trying very hard to ignore it, but the discomfort sharply increases once he comes across this on the network.

His immediate assumption is that it is from the literary mish-mash. ]

What on Earth - or in space, I should say - have you just done? I strongly suspect Dante and Shakespeare are turning in their graves for having their great works intertwined as such.

[ The responding grin on Arthur's face is, technically, his, but the sentiment and humor behind it is undoubtedly Crake's. The curve to his smile comes with teeth too, pearly-white instead of covered with a pink film of spit and blood. It's a nice change, being topside. ]

I'll admit, that's pretty funny.

[ The words are both familiar and grossly alien. In his home colony the words of all the Old Texts of Earth had been passed down by word of mouth, jumbled and confused in places but still retaining all the essence of the original texts. The words in front of him now have caught his eye - he understands small bursts of words on one level, but put together it makes no sense at all. Ill-fitting scraps and pieces, discordant strands of something once-familiar, a weird cacophony of disturbing religious references that resonate in all the wrong ways.

Hotspur has always been a believer. There was no way he could let this post pass by him. ]

It's a cute girlish number because Chase is a girl, and definitely not a creature from the otherworld. Her smile is smug as she knocks, entering after a beat. Her eyes flicker black, a small sign of good faith. ]

So what does it mean?

[he tilts his head. wickedness of spirit, huh? well, that told him plenty, since this didn't look like nonsense or just like scripture. he didn't know who it was, or who was behind it, but it was enough. that, and he agreed with it.]
