here's hoping you weren't too busy doing something unspeakably disgusting now that Potter's here to notice that they aren't just ordinary boggarts
they're not responding to the usual counter curses at all and seem to be dying off when killed like the thing they're pretending to be

[When Harry slides into the video, he's somewhere dark, his face almost glowing white in the camera lens. Oddly, he isn't alone either; in the background, there's the silhouette of a willowy girl who seems to be mumbling to herself. Soon enough, the reason for his opting video over text becomes apparent.] Hermione! I have. I'm all right. But there's something really odd going on with it. I mean I thought I'd killed it an hour ago, when I came across River-- [he turns, device in hand, clearly thinking to make introductions.

But then he thinks better of it. Wiser to try and get out the coherent chronology before bringing his new, uh, friend in/] but-- that's daft isn't it? I was patrolling when I found it attacking River, and it turned into a dementor because of me. When I sent my patronus after it, it-- well, it worked. But when I tried to move it toward the lockers for containment, I blew it up instead. It's like nothing I've ever heard about, Hermione.

[You can't kill a boggart. They both know this. You can't very well blow up a boggart.]

But River's been trying to explain it to me. Hang on-- let me get her over here. River? [He's turning again, twisting the camera so the dark-haired girl can see.] Miss River, this is my friend. Hermione. Maybe she'll understand what you mean.

[ the boggarts haven't exactly been the most fun time in the world, but all things considered she's actually holding up okay now - particularly due to the information that she's trying to relay, actually. ]

They aren't right. If you look closer there's the stitching, it's a different pattern.[ which is about as helpful as she's been up until now, do you see harry's issue here hermione?

she is at least partly aware of how unsuccessfully her explanation is going, though, and huffs slightly before stepping a little closer and folding her arms over her chest. ]

It's a new species. It needs a new name. Boggart isn't accurate any more.

[This is worrisome and yet there is a part of her that wouldn't mind demolishing a Boggart. Sending them away with a spell was satisfying until you come across them in the midst of a war and they just make things worse. Then you want to kill them.

But if they really turn into someone's worst fear and have a physical, mortal form...

She shakes her head.]

It must be a hybrid. Something taken from our world and warped - or added to - in space. [Now for the important question.] When they are killed, do they stay dead or are you encountering the same one after it has regenerated?

[Then, in a softer voice, she adds:] I'm sorry you were attacked, River. You'll be safe with Harry, though. He's better at Defense Magic than almost anyone onboard.
