Alex Summers is gone.

[ why not immediately get that out of the way. anderson isn't looking particularly happy about it — and she isn't. he'd been one of her closest friends aboard, more of a brother than anything else.

at the edge of the video feed, a dog appears, nudging her, and anderson reaches out to pet anya for a moment before dropping her hand and squaring her shoulders. ] If anyone wants self-defense lessons, to spar, or to get a tour of gunnery, let me know.

[ staying busy is the best way she knows to deal with things. ]

Oh.

[No. Rogue already looks ill, still recovering mentally from the last month, and now, she looks even worse. She didn't need to hear this, or see this. Still in the medbay, she's desperate to find something to punch, or drink, or something. But leaving here would be terrible. What if she ran into someone she hurt, that didn't understand? What if she hurt someone?

Alex would have said to go out anyway.

But Alex wasn't here to say it.]

[ anderson inclines her head a little. oh about covers it. ] I'm sorry. I know you cared for him.

[ the two of them might not know each other, but that doesn't mean anderson doesn't know of rogue. she's been in alex's head often enough. ]

I- yeah.

[She looks down, ashamed. The last time they spoke- god, she'd fucked up. And now he was gone.]

Wait. How do you know? Did he say something?

[ there's more than one way of caring for someone, but the assumption that anderson knows about how rogue cared for alex, well.

that's not entirely inaccurate. ] He didn't have to. [ a beat. ] I'm a telepath.

Oh.

[Not good. She's inherently distrustful of telepaths, understandably. She didn't need more people in her head. Especially not now.]

[ anderson waits a moment to see if there's more forthcoming. it's not as though she can read anyone's mind over the network, after all.

eventually: ] Oh?

I just know a few telepaths, is all.

[The Professor. Jean. Those three weird triplets.]

You're from Charles' world. [ charles, alex, erik, mystique — anderson knows jean, too, if only in passing. ]

I'm one of his students. In his future.

I know Alex's brother.

His biological brother?

[ alex grew up in an adoptive family, after all. ]

I... think. Scott Summers, is his name.

[As had Scott, from what she had gotten from his memories. It was something she and Alex had shared.]

I don't know him.

[ which makes sense, seeing how anderson is from a very different world than the majority of mutants aboard the tq. ]

I didn't necessarily- I didn't think you'd know.

Is he also a mutant?

Mr. Summers? Yeah. He leads the X-Men.

The X-Men?

...Alex didn't tell you about them?

He didn't mention them, no.

Oh.

I shouldn't have expected him to.

[ anderson's shoulders lift in a shrug. ] So who are they?

We're kinda... We're kinda like super heroes.

Who are the villains?

He... [She halts for a moment.] He wouldn't want me saying.

[ a very long beat, then: ] Erik? [ she knows he has the potential for it. ]

[Another beat, just as long.] And Mys- Raven.

[ that comes as a surprirse — but anderson, for all that she's an idealist, has always been pragmatic first of all. and so: ] Does she know? [ the one who is here, that is. ]

Yeah. She does.

[ anderson nods, the gesture accompanied by a wordless noise of acknowledgement.

she doesn't really have anything else to say. it's not the kind of information she'd thank anyone for passing on, and she hardly knows rogue outside of alex's mind. ]

he's home

[ It's something, anyway. It's the going theory with consistent evidence to back it up enough that Charles feels alright about stating it like fact, in this context. It isn't easy, of course. Alex knows who he is, back home.

The same can't be said for Cassandra. ]

Probably.

[ and because it's charles, because he can't be in her head via the network, she elaborates: ] He didn't think he could go home.

we never talked about it but I did know the variables he'd be thinking about I don't think he escaped our timeline so easily

He worried about it.
If he's home, he won't remember

[ maybe that's a kindness of sorts. losing josie had been difficult for alex, so maybe it's easier not to remember? of course, it also means he doesn't remember anderson, but it's not as though anderson is likely to meet alex again, unless he comes back here. ]

so it does go are you alright?

[ Because frankly, Cassandra had gotten on better with Alex than Charles had, although they'd had a better go of it, towards the end. That eases a little guilt. ]

I will be.

[ alex had been the closest thing to a brother she's ever had. so she's not alright, but it's not the first time she's lost someone she cared for. it's not even the first time she's lost family.

if nothing else, she knows she can keep going. ]
