008 - Text/Video - Action
Some people asked last time. So if anyone is interested in a portal demonstration. I've got the gym on floor 12 set up.
If you want to know what a portal is. It's this
[The screen will change to video and show something like this
And back to text.]
No, I don't know the details of the science behind it. But it you want to see it, I'm in the gym.
[Feel free to respond with questions or just show up in the gym.
If you go for the gym option, you'll find Chell sitting on a cube with a heart on it. The gym is covered in white paint splotches. There is a shimmering blue portal on one, but no orange one yet.]

[ You have Rocket's attention. Unfortunately he's new, and also Rocket. ]
you've got portal tech and you don't know the science behind it??
jesus where's the gym i wanna see this thing for myself.
text;
Floor 12, large gym at the end.
text;
anybody ever tried to take it apart before?
text;
[Sorry space scientists she's sure you're probably great people but science=utterly insane. Thanks Aperture.]
text;
specially not something like this. portal tech, man.
[ This is the part where Rocket would laugh for fifty years if he could. But maybe he'll be able to
steal itget her to let him poke at it. ]text;
Are all scientists insane where you come from too?
text;
oh yeah. don't matter where they come from, either.
text;
"Creative genius" seems to mean lets do whatever the hell we want with science before we run out of money or people to mess with. Or more along Apertures lines of, Oh look that A.I we built killed everyone and is now as insane about science as we were ...opps.
text;
floor 12, yeah?

[ Knock knock. Rocket figures after the reactions he's gotten so far, he might as well announce himself before he barges in. She's got a portal gun, he doesn't want her shooting it at him.
Ears perked, he regards the gym at large, putting his comm into a pouch on the front of his jumpsuit before he starts ambling into the gym proper. His eyes land on the cube, first, which causes his mask to shift like he's raising a brow before he looks up at her - and the gun. ]
That is streamline.
action;
Instead she shrugs slightly while holding it.]
They were big on that look at Aperture.

Did they like the sterile white look, too? [ 'cause that's what he's gathering from the look of it.
But it's sturdy looking, too. Looks like it's been banged around and not taken any real damage to it, which has his fingers itching to touch everywhere. ]

[She taps her white long fall boots as another example.]
The test chambers were gleaming white. It wasn't till you got behind them you saw the mess the place was.
[But oddly the sterile white was the worst. She still can't help but inwardly shudder when she remembers the center rebuilding around her and that gleaming white test chamber that came with the realization that she was running out of time. But enough horrible memories of GLaDOS.]
So anyway, the portal gun shoots two linked portals. Only it has to be on a certain type of surface. Ship sent me some paint so I decided to do up the gym with a bit of help from a friend.
[She points out the large white paint splotches spread out across the gym. They're everywhere they could possibly reach with slingshots. A small one even on the ceiling.]

Yeah, he'd totally inwardly shudder, too. ]
Figure seeing the mess is better'n the sterility.
[ But his attention goes to the paint, and he comes to stand next to her instead of behind her to look at the boots. One thing at a time. ]
So it's hardwired to respond to certain surfaces and not others? They ever give you a spiel on what the paint's made of that makes it so damn special, or did they figure it was better to just let you shoot your gun at it and get shit done instead?

[Also she portaled to the moon. That....that was thing.]

[ He clicks his tongue, moving to inspect one of the spots of paint. Crouching down, his tail flicks into a position that allows him to remain balanced as he reaches to smooth his fingers over the surface. ]
So, you shoot the gun at one of these, and you get a portal.

[And she moves over to shoot a portal first at a low place on the wall and then another on the other side of the room, though also quite low. She nimbly steps through the one closest to her and ends up on the other side of the room.]
Portals.
action!!!
On the way over to her he turns a circle, walking sideways and backwards and sideways again, to look at the walls. ]
Let's see it.

Not quite the "Enrichment Center" but I think we did a good enough job.
[She shoots a blue portal on a wall, high up. The orange one goes on the paint of the floor a little further away from her. She gives a smirk and a wave before keeping a grip on her portal gun, and then runs forwards and leaps into the orange portal.....and comes flying out of the blue one on the other side of the room.
She lands nimbly on her feet, even though for a moment it probably looked like that wasn't possible. She grins.]
That's the only thing I'm going to in any way miss from that place.

Enrichment Center, [ he repeats, taking a seat on a weight bench. After a moment he decides, ] That cannot be what it sounds like.

"Aperture Science Computer Aided Enrichment Center"
[She says this with added air quotes and a voice that is probably mimicking someone. See GLaDOS you should be happy she never spoke to you.]
A place to make things better with science. They meant it when they started I think. I heard some of the old voice records their boss left behind. But they didn't care about little things like safety or ethics or ...sanity and over the years apparently they just kept finding more and more people to stick into tests.
[She shrugs slightly.]
At least that's what I could piece together. One of their creations was running the place by the time I woke up there. They're all dead now. Serves them right.
