Color me curious. Since we're such a diverse group of people - how many of you are from "Earth"? I don't care what version of it, I don't care what time you're from. Considering that we're all supposed to be from different galaxies and times, why is it your wonderful planet that gets picked on?

Not that I'm minding, there are so many people from my own galaxy that I'd hate to see again (though, if there's an old man called Ben Kenobi or Obi Wan still hiding out here, I still want my money), it's just odd that it's that galaxy that gets all the fun.

Or, you know, tell me where you're from. How are you? What's Earth like? Something - it's just bugging me.

The place I come from has mountains and fjords... those are narrow inlets from the sea. But other parts of the world have deserts or plains. I haven't seen them, but I've read about them.

What's it like where you come from?

Yeah, but why? Why not find a new planet that's secure and then build from there? A planet is just a planet.

We settled on New Caprica for a time. That was secure enough. [then cylons]

Earth is a legend. Rumored to be the lost colony. It gives us something to hope for, in these troubling times.

I don't know about you lady, but I'd rather be alive than find a lost colony. It's just not worth it.

You assume that we wouldn't have faced death otherwise.

You make a good point. Most everyone's human, too. Or at least looks it. I don't think I've met a single alien since coming aboard. You'd think outer space would be the time for it.

I am. And truthfully, I know not why it is my world which is best represented here. I have met only one who did not hail from it, and sadly, he has since perished.

To be blunt: I know no one who has seen the entirety of my world in my point in time, and thus cannot give you an accurate picture of it. Only the small country I am from and the continent beyond is known to me; and all is fraught with war and political strife, as one might expect. It is a beautiful place, but the people who live in it are like as not the same sort of ilk you might find in your own world, sir.

None of my family is from Earth, stupid, and you've met us.

I'm from a city called Paris on Earth. I don't know why whatever brings us here likes it so much but sometimes it feels like half the city is here.

It's a poor and hungry place to live if you aren't rich. But so many people are from the future and they say that gets better. That France becomes a republic.

Oh, Earth is wonderful. I haven't seen much of it, really, but Columbia is a beautiful place. And there are so many interesting people with stories to tell...

Are many here not from Earth? Before this ship, I had never met anyone who... well, lived in space.

I suppose the Earth is just very, very unlucky.

[Back home, inter-universe travel is an imprecise thing, and they tend to end up on other Earths more often than not. It raises a lot of strange questions about the multiverse at large. Fortescue chuckles.]

Then again, I don't really have any basis for comparison. I've never been anywhere else. Although I've traveled to a few versions, and can say that the Earth always has more than a few wars going on. But I'd like to think that that's not our hallmark.

Nice to see that you have your priorities straight. Don't you ever get tired of staying on the same planet? There are galaxies out there that you could explore.

Are you just going to leave me hanging there? How big is it that you can't see all of a planet?

Lots of people live in space. Depending on the person, planets are just hubs and stop overs before your next destination.
