So I guess this is becoming a thing, but I think I'm gonna host a brunch potluck thingamajig. [She trails off, taps her lower lip with an index finger.] Probably in one of the rec rooms in a couple days. Set up for a few hours and let everyone who wants to wander in have a chance to eat and mingle.

[Alexis Castle: TQ's Morale Officer. Or something.

She hesitates, mouth quirking in a frown before speaking again. There's a little less confidence, less self-assurance now.] I hope everyone's doing okay.

It's... well. It's just a slang term. Just a thing I didn't really have the right word for.

I see, I think I understand. [ Though not really. ]

So you offer to make a brunch... thing, is it? Is anyone welcome to join?

Absolutely anyone -- as long as no one causes any trouble or anything.

No, that was not in my plans at all. [ She offers a smile. ] Is there anything I can help with preparations?

Oh, definitely. Even if you just help set up a table or carrying something for me, I'm grateful.

I can do that, surely. [ She smiles a little, glad to be of use with anything. ] Have you yet thought of a date to make this brunch?

Not quite. A week or so from now, just to give me time to put it together, maybe.

That seems fair. If you need any help in the preparation as well, I am at your disposal. My name is Éowyn, so it is easy for you to speak to me through this device.

It is a pleasure, Alexis. [ She would have used the title she is accustomed to, but since the girl did not use it on her, she figures she should not do so either. ] May I ask what place you come from?

I'm from a place on Earth called New York. What about you?

No place where yours exists, I must confess. I come from the kingdom of Rohan, which is a place on Middle Earth.

What's it like? [It's an earnest, eager question. Tell her stories - she would like to hear them.]

Oh Rohan, my lady, is a most wondrous sight. There are seas of green as far as one's eye can see, even as the pastures grow around houses and villages. The country is surrounded by mountain ranges on two sides, and two rivers on the others. We have many streams crossing the land, and the capital, the hill fort of Edoras, rests upon the slopes of Ered Nimrais - the White Mountains. There are caves deep within those mountains as well, past the valley of Helm's Deep.

It is a land of green for its most part, as you may guess. Entirely different from this place.

[She's grinning.] It sounds wonderful.

I do think so. [ It is her home, after all. ] In return, I ask - what is New York like?

There's so much life there. [She grins.] There's always something to do and always people around. I mean, sometimes it gets overwhelming and I do like to get away but...

... I like having the people near. I like knowing that I'm never really alone, come right down to it. I live with my father and my grandmother and, really, any place they are would be home, you know? I'm just glad it's New York.

[ Éowyn smiles, understanding the feeling perfectly, even if she knows that the world Alexis comes from is much too different from her own. ]

And your father and grandmother, are they here with you? Or anyone else from your realm?

They aren't. It's probably best. Dad would drive everyone crazy and my grandmother... Well, she'd drive everyone crazier.

I see. [ She smiles. ] Then it is a peculiar family that you have, though I am sure they are good people.

They're kind of the best.

[You remind Elsa of someone, Alexis.]

You're talking about some kind of party?

[Elsa thinks about it for a moment, without cutting the video transmission.]

I can't cook.

[She's a little bit embarrassed to admit this, and it's clear that she's interested in participating.]
