Hello, Tranquility. I wanted to draw your attention to a project currently in the making. Some of you may know that we once had a genetics and xenobiology department. While this has since closed its final chapter, it's now begun anew.

I'm looking for individuals with experience in both practical science as well as, or alternatively, study classed in the realms of magic. Our aim is to create a research division that focuses on the exploration of the physical and metaphysical environment within this new realm, and our place in it. We've all been thrown together in a space we don't understand, affected by it uniquely, with no record or formalised effort made into understanding the interactions of so many disparate worlds and rules, and the laws of nature that now govern us all.

To talk very briefly about myself -- if you don't already know, my name is Professor Charles Xavier. In my home world, I studied genetics, and the development of extraordinary talents gifted to a new minority. Where I left off and came here, I was in the process of forming an institution that would allow fellow mutants to explore their powers with an aim to provide an educated perspective, both on the mechanics of their unique talent as well as the scientific commonalities between themselves and those like them. I come, now, bearing these experiences, but I know that it isn't enough.

None of us, on our own, are enough -- no matter how educated or informed we may be.

However, I think I can provide a useful perspective, with the help of other useful perspectives. It's my belief that aside from the original crew [ and the corner of his mouth ticks up ] we're all eligible for being classed under xenobiology. I will see to it that this division will, eventually, offer physical or psychic therapy to anyone who may require it, be they witch, mutant, or something else. Additionally, there are several of us who find our natures have changed since arriving on the Tranquility, and if you would like to know why, perhaps we can discover that answer together.

Joining me is Professor Severus Snape, who I'll defer to in all matters of an explicitly magical nature. If you'd like to be a part of this division, then please reply with what you would like to contribute, as well as what you'd like to get out of it yourself. Or any questions you might have, of course, if you're not sure of either. We will also need a filing clerk, eventually, and anyone with a good grasp on hardware, you know, those things I'm at a personal deficit with.

We're also the only division that doesn't currently provide critical functionality to the ship, so you can count on casual Fridays and drinks after five.

[ His hands tap flat against the edge of the desk, pushing himself away from it slightly. Pleased with himself. That was some xavier.txt teal deer. I apologise. ]

But yeah, all right. I just thought this was an amusing diversion or something. Couldn't imagine why anyone would want to stick themselves down in that dingy ruined bit of the ship otherwise. Whose idea was that?

Bravery. But don't worry about it, I'm only trying to gauge your levels of sarcasm.

But as for that, er, mine, actually -- well, we went to take a look and then it was a mutual inclination. We have designs for working remotely, but if it's a security risk to use frequently or we're unable to get it off the ground, we'll move to the labs proper.

I don't know that it's a security risk so much as it is 'sort of idiotic'.

[Although oops, glancing back, maybe Tyke is disapproving and he should be disapproving but-- nah.]

I had designs about achieving as much independence from ship resource as possible, whether it's power or otherwise. Gloomy setting aside. Of course [ there's the sound of a glass clicking against desk -- a drink being set back down ] we don't always get what we want.

In the end, location isn't as important as the organisation.

[ Being called sort of idiotic evidently not the worst thing in the world and is allowed to breeze on by. Posting to the network is, in part, an active decision to be patient. ]

[Yes and you are so frustratingly patient it's enough to drive one mad. A reaction is, as always, what Sirius craves.]

[Not that he particularly cares. And he's got thoughts, on this particular organisation, and the inclusion of Snape--thoughts is sort of generous, they go along the lines of are you fucking mental and you do know he's a total bastard and then just confusion and disdain--

[ There's a pause, there. Vaguely thrown by the direction. Willing to go with it, seeing as he responds; ]

Yes, I know. A couple of times. Did we get along?

We only spoke a few times, actually. I was more fond of your sister.

[Fond. He puts just a touch of stress on that word, to sort of suggest at... something, anyways, though purposefully left vague.]

She's pretty brilliant. But it's weird, isn't it.

[ There's a reserved quiet for that, which is the safer bet, god knows, rather than getting annoyed at either emphasis or hamfisted if effective attempts at irking him at all

or the fact that Sirius is the first one to volunteer having known Raven previously.

He clears his throat. ]

Very weird, Mr Black. I miss her dearly, but even so, I'm glad she's no longer on board.

[That bit he says flippantly, maybe a little smirky, like this conversation has recalled all sorts of fond memories. (Which it has, actually, and it feels a little cheap to use Raven like this when he really was quite fond of her-- but, whatever.]

Anyways, you're right, it's probably better that she's gone off to places unknown. We should only wish space on our very worst enemies and the worst bastards that we know.

[ A familiar voice can be heard from somewhere away from Charles's communicator saying something, but it doesn't get picked up clear enough to be understood. ]
