So, now that the crisis is averted? I'd just like to say that two people should have listened to me— I wouldn't be gauche enough to name them— [ yeah because this post is classy and not smug at all— ] but I'd say they know who they are.

What he deserves, speaking as someone who was there, is a friend who'll be there for him, because what we went through? It was fucked up. And we're all well aware that we brought it on ourselves, so there's no need for posts like this. We feel bad enough already.

I'm the one gets to say 'I told you so', Caffrey. Everyone wants their pound of flesh, but the thing about that is they're going to have to take it from my cold, dead corpse, and this ship doesn't quite want me dead yet.

People may think this is a lesson in humility. They're missing the point, and so are you.

I'd hoped you'd simply taken up being deadpan. As it turns out, you've continued to be a bloated, blustering paragon of pomposity, egotism, and ignorance. May I go through and point out everything stupid and asinine about what you just said? We'll have to budget out a significant block of time.

Oh no you don't. You don't get to take that stance with me. Not you. Let me tell you something that, because I was trapped on the bridge looking after those people, I simply haven't been able to say until now, but that someone should have told you days ago:

Let's start with number one. The first point in your sophistry. Assuming that the ship wants to keep you alive, you bloviating ass. Not some other with you. Not the group as a whole. You. As ever, posturing yourself as the grand general, the crux of the affair, the one who matters; all others were simply there as accessories to your ego. Number two: no one gives a damn about getting a pound of flesh. You want to cast yourself as the martyr, because it makes you feel...what, noble? Embattled? Special? But here's the truth, Petrelli: everyone just thinks you're an idiot. No one's out for you; they're just angry, because you endangered the lives of their friends by being stupid. This isn't the martyring of a noble figure. This is the first act of Rigoletto.

I think you're speaking for a few less people than the everyone that you claim to, Edgeworth.

You might live longer because you wait for the ship to come to you, but what sort of life is it where you spend your days looking out for movement just out of sight and sign yourself over to stasis with no ideas as to when or ever you're going to get back out.

Those people had the right to risk their lives, and they did. That's giving them a damn lot more respect for their actions and choices than you care to, because by calling me stupid, you do the same injustice to them.

So let me understand this. You're attempting to use my affection for them as a shield for yourself. Is that what shining generals, postmodern Napoleons like yourself do? Is that in the how-to-be-a-good-leader handbook - use those around you to shelter yourself?

What did you say to them?

I am drawing your attention to the double-edge of your blade, Edgeworth. You put it to mine and you cut your own.

This action was necessary. You stated your dislike of it when the endeavor began--in fact you were damn near ready to deny people their freedom of self-determination over it. Sixteen people went in and sixteen came out. That's the end of it.

And do you take credit for their survival, Petrelli?

I suppose you're going to tell me I have no proof of that, are you? Like you did before?

No. I'm going to tell you to stop acting like a hero, in that case. You made a bad mistake, one that almost got people killed, and you're acting like that makes you glorious.

It wasn't a mistake, Edgeworth. That's what you're never going to get through your head. Anything that endangers lives or engenders any risk is a mistake to you. But this isn't a goddamn pillow fight. We're fighting for our lives here, and when your life is in danger, you have to be prepared to throw down all your chips, even when all you have is a slim bet.

You can bury your head in the sand and pretend nothing around you is happening until it's too late, but don't expect the same from everyone else.

No, it was a mistake. There's nothing wrong with taking action, Petrelli; I've said that again and again. What's wrong is taking stupid action. And you took stupid action. We told you before it was stupid. We told you during it was stupid. And we're telling you now: it was stupid.

But you couldn't listen, because God knows that what saves us has to come from you. You need to be some hero. A tip, Senator: heroes are typically those who do not act from a need for praise.

He'd drawn out exactly where his actions had come from, the ship driving them to insanity, which is what it does best, the fact that everything is beginning to fall apart, the pressing feeling increasing jump after jump that something is about to happen, the fact that it's very possible the experimental, untested Jump drive has exploded and destroyed time itself, and that warranted trying to find out if anything on the bridge had changed. This is all about a need for a parade and a slap on the back? Vanity may be a small problem he suffers from but it isn't his defining feature, and right now he's more than had enough. ]

There's that 'we' again. 'You' said that in your limited understanding of what I was trying to achieve, you thought that it was stupid. Well bully for you. Not everyone has to wholly believe in an action to give it value. You'd call Japan's kamikaze pilots stupid, I suppose, but they damn well achieved what they set out to, and at far less loss of life for the damage they inflicted than other forces.

I don't need a general consensus to act, and I don't care what you think is stupid or not. While I may understand that your anger may only be an expression of how much you care, as people keep telling me, it doesn't excuse you forever. Sooner or later there comes a time when I can't cut you a blank cheque to make room for your feelings any more.

I'm angry because I'm angry. Because you were reckless and stupid and persisted in doing your own thing in the face of what was right and intelligent. I'm angry because there were half a dozen people ready to kill themselves outside that door, waiting for all of you - and that wouldn't have happened if you'd just listened to me. Anyone saying I'm angry because I care can go right to hell. And I will not hear you - you most of all, out of all the people here - talking about my feelings. You have no right to talk about my feelings.

I didn't think anyone needed to be told that storming the bridge might be dangerous; I'm pretty sure most of us had that figured out going in.

And what about the sixteen people willing to kill themselves inside that door, huh? Their intentions, their efforts, their sacrifice--it counts for nothing?

What is right and intelligent, Edgeworth, on an insane, crazy, death ship, lost out in the middle of god knows where, floating along without any pilot, possibly exploding as we speak, with hallways that reorder themselves and years that seem to pass in the space of days, leaving you neither hungry, thirsty or tired?

Get a goddamn clue already. We're not in Kansas any more, Dorothy.
