[ instead of speaking right away (partially because while the buttons are clearly labelled, she'd had some trouble figuring out this device), elizabeth strikes a soft tune on her viola. while she can't afford to express her emotions, music has always been a good outlet for them.

she plays on for a little, and then sets aside her instrument with a soft thud so that she might speak. ]

So, this is supposedly a.. ship? It feels more akin to a prison than any ship I have ever seen.

[ those are made of wood. and you can disembark them! what a concept. ]

I should like to know more information about it, if anyone might be so kind as to indulge me.

So far as I know, it is the year of Our Lord 1483. But I have heard this might not be so. Are such occurrences commonplace?

There are people here from vastly disparate times and places. Even those who are known to each other have arrived younger or older than expected. There are introductions available, for those unaccustomed to this sort of vessel.

The ships I am familiar with are fashioned of wood planks and sail across water, good sir. Not through the stars. Such a thing is perhaps a dream among the people of my time, but certainly not possible.

I believe I would like one of these introductions. I would like to be able to teach my mother, in turn.

It is far better than a prison. We are not permitted to leave, and we are held against our will. And there are dangers. But that still does not make it a prison.

And it truly is a ship, for all that it does not look like one.

[ oh goodness, in appearance, he almost reminds her of her little brothers. almost. elizabeth is silent for a long time simply because she can't stop looking at the image, and wondering if that is how edward or richard would look at that age.

when eventually she finds her voice, it is to calmly, gently disagree with him. ]

Perhaps it is a ship, though not of the like I have ever seen before. But it is a prison.

Even if it be close to home, anywhere we are forced to live against our wishes and not permitted to leave is a prison.

I am from 1500 myself. While most visitors seem to be from a later time, they seem similarly surprised by their circumstance.

[ oh, wow! someone from 17 years in the future. that's not so far of a stretch compared to over 600 years. :D her tone is bright and almost cheery when she replies: ]

Ah! It is a relief to hear that I am not the sole one here from so long past.

[ she is almost tempted to ask if the turn of a new century somehow makes europe a better place, but she refrains for now. ]

I have seen such, and it does bring a small measure of comfort, I will admit.

and she might be trying to smother a scream. it's terribly rude, but it's a demon!
