I mean hypothetically--okay, so hypothetically, the Jump drive is turned on and it doesn't work how it's supposed to, or something's gotten in there, and say the ship gets ripped apart in that instant. But say, because of the way it travels, because it's experimental, because you should never fuck with time and space, that instead of exploding like BOOM it instead explodes across said time and space, so that what is left is echoes, and we're somehow coming instead toward that explosion instead of moving away from it. And the increasing heat down that side of the ship is just one part of it. I'm not a scientist, so some reassurance I'm not talking out of my ass would be great.
