We've had quite a bit of discussion about primary skills.

[He's gone through a rather large archive, compiling a list in case of emergency]

Many of you have used them to join various departments, for which everyone is grateful. But what I'm wondering about now is the various secondary skills you might possess. The things you don't necessarily specialize in, but know enough about to use in a pinch. It would be quite useful to know in case we have another incident where a large proportion of one department is temporarily out of commission.

I wonder if you would be able to tell me more about what skills are considered most useful here-- I have no desire to be idle, but I confess I'm unsure what I might best offer.

( Jax had suggested that ought to be her next address to the network, but this does strike her as an appropriate opportunity to bring it up without drawing quite so much attention to herself. )

We always need people with mechanical skills in Engineering and on the flight deck. Medical is also always looking for help.

If you're not accustomed to this level of technology, we also need people to help grow food in the gardens. Or prepare it in the kitchens. THat last one isn't an official department, but still very useful. And the more combat inclined can find work in gunnery or security.

If you're interested in a particular department, I can put you in contact with the relevant people.

I will give the matter some thought, I think. My skills don't seem-- readily applicable, but I'm certain that I can make a use for myself.

As my father presided over his court, I sat at his side. I suppose that princess is not precisely an occupation-- if you don't consider the word improper, you might call me a politician.

I'm a politician myself.

[Though he totally gets the feelings some people have about such things. They've had more than their share of nasty ones at home, after all]

There are actually quite a few in communications.

It was the best choice available.

We largely work on coordinating matters on the ship. Getting people where they can best help.

I joined Security, to help with organization and such. I can apply those skills to just about any department, I think. Maybe.

That's a useful skill just about anywhere. Security is likely to need a lot of coordinating when trouble hits.

We never truly know what we're capable of until we're tested. But more often than not, it turns out to be far more than we ever expected.

You're welcome. Circumstances here are far from ideal, but we all manage as best we can.

I can go with that. [Pause] Anyway, secondary skills. I can always help out anywhere someone needs an extra pair of hands, eyes, or ears. I can't do anything overly technical, but...

But you can free up those with more specific skills from mundane tasks.

I'm up in the gunnery but I can fly any boat you need me to fly. And I'm a pretty decent mechanic, too.

It would seem Tatooine develops quite a number of skills.

You do what you gotta do to get by. It's a harsh place.
