Why do we have to get back into those pods?

[ katniss is wary about questioning the way things are here, when she's still not sure this isn't just some kind of arena. but she also doesn't really know how to do one-on-one transmissions, or private lock something, and she's a little slower at texting than she'd really like, so a question she might normally just ask haymitch is addressed to the network as a whole. ]

Some people are still in them from the last time. What happens if even less people wake up?

During the jump I arrived on, somebody was outside of the pods while the ship jumped. Dead doesn't begin to cover what he looked like after the jump was over. Believe me, you want to be inside the pods when it happens.

No, but I'd like to believe it. My... [ The word is still strange to her, but apparently it's the right term to use? ] Boyfriend is asleep, in a pod. I know he will wake up.

[ She knows that voice. It takes her a moment to respond, gathering her thoughts -- it's hard to know what to do, in situations like this, whether she should say that she knows Katniss or not. ]

The human body can't stand the force of the jump. You'll be... "crushed" isn't the most accurate way to put it, but it's a good one. And I haven't seen anyone remain asleep in the pods for more than one jump.

That doesn't mean it won't happen, but so far, getting back in is the better option.

[ There's a pause, then- ]

Sometimes people disappear from them. They go home, or at least that's what most people think.

Considering we can't even get a handle on the thermostat, I don't think anyone can answer that second question.

My guess is that we try to survive.
