Uh. Hi, everyone. Um, I just wanted to say that, uh, I haven't heard back from Xenobiology, as to whether or not, I can work there. Um. I talked to Alexander about it but... um. So if anyone else is looking for more people, uh. I would like to help. I'm good at animals, and math, uh, but I am willing to learn anything.

I understand that there will not be culling even if we don't contribute, uh, for wich I thank the captain and his crew, but doing things, in an official capacity, is still something I am interested in. This place is, uh, kind of creepy, without any distractions.

[gee this kid sounds kind of... retiring. qilby offers his kindest smile.] What about it appeals to you?

[The gentle smile is nice, and Tavros does his best to respond to it, while immediately dropping his eyes.]

O-oh. Uh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize that, um, it was a department where other people were also trying to find work. I, uh, I was training, uh, basically my whole life, which is probably comparatively not very long, to be a cavalreaper, so, uh, I know a lot about animal husbandry and also training, for all sorts of different kinds of fauna. Also, I can commune with them, which is, uh, is a telepathic skill, s-so it just seemed like a good fit.

Um. But probably they will prefer someone with more experience, so. Uh, if you are also trying to work there, I will, I guess, find something somewhere else.

[oh dear...

he shakes his head.] Oh, no, no, you misunderstand me. I think it's wonderful that there's an entire group of people here devoted to this sort of work! Back home, it really was only me...

And I certainly didn't have the ability to actually communicate with the animals themselves. That's a great skill to have. [a laugh.] I'm afraid I can't speak for the department, but I'm sure that with a power like that, they'd be glad to have you.

Ah-- [almost forgot] --my name is Qilby, by the way. What's yours?

I'm Tavros. [Gradual...looking back up...Qilby really isn't annoyed? Wow, people around here sure are great.] ...Do you really think I have a chance? Maybe, they can hire both of us, and then we can work together! Um, if that's something, you wouldn't mind.

I guess, maybe, I could go down there and just ask. Um. I don't really want to bother Alexander, if he doesn't need more people, though. Have you met him yet? Uhhh, people didn't seem to really trust him, but he was nice to me, though, so, uh, I don't know why that would be.

I wouldn't mind in the least. I could speak to your benefit when I talk to someone about work, if you'd like, though I'm not sure how valuable my word would be.

[a pensive look. if he could, he'd be stroking dat beard thoughtfully.] I don't think I've met Alexander-- he's the one in charge, eh?

[The. Most. Amazed. Face.]

Wow! Really? Wowwww, yes that would, definitely, be really great!

[Tavros is practically chirping now - man if he can just prove to Qilby (or SOMEBODY) that he's good to have around, that would be the best.]

Alexander is the one who made the announcement that people need to give blood to the department, so, uh, I don't know if he is in charge, per se, but he is, definately a person there, with authorit. Um, I think that maybe he is not practiced at diplomacy, when dealing with groups of people? It is pretty not fun, I imagine, to talk to the whole ship, and have to ask them to do something, that they aren't going to want to. Probably that is why people were upset, now that I think about it.

[a funny look passes qilby's face as he pauses for lack of words -- but his tone is all kindly business-as-usual when he speaks again.] ... Yes, it's rather an unforgiving job at times, being a leader. Especially when we, their people, are so divided. Different worlds, different experiences, different goals. But I'd hope we'd all place at least some trust in each other, if only for the sake of the ship's well-being.

That was a rather astute observation you made.

[Hello Tavros. This one is looking considerably more rested than before. There's still a nervous faun sort of energy about him, but he seems calm, almost happy.]

I hope you can find work. If you're not busy, maybe you'd like to eat dinner with me...? I think I've finally caught up on all the sleep I need. [Yes it did take him about this long.]

Hi, Jeremy. Uh, sure, that sounds like a thing we can do. I'm, uh, glad you're feeling better.

[The relief of being far away still hasn't stopped sinking in.]

Soon, would be good, I think. Uh, heh, I guess making public memos, is pretty stressful actually, and works up an appetite!

I guess so! I haven't really figured out how to use this thing that well yet... it's kind of confusing.

Uh, no, no culling. So far, anyway. Um. That's a thing that would happen, in my culture, which was very space-faring. Uh, everyone had to pull their weight, or there was no reason to support them. Human ships are different, though, so that's...good, really. For us. Yes.

[So apparently that was supposed to be comforting?]

But that- I mean, that sounds a little extreme, don't you think? Sure, no one likes a slacker but, seriously?

Uh, well, in space especially, you only have so many resources to go around, so, uh, if someone is just eating them up, that's bad.

I guess this ship is so big, and empty, that there's no reason for us to worry.

Then you have experience with this? You've done this whole- creepy space ship thing before?

Oh. Uh, no, not me, specifically. Sorry, that was misleading. Um. Although all adults of my species do join the space fleet, so, uh, if I survived that long, that is what I would be doing, so they make sure to teach us about it, before then.

Um, I guess you are a human, from a not-yet-in-space universe? It's okay, there are a lot of different timelines here. It can, uh, be pretty confusing, but like I said, people are nice, and explain things, and don't just cull you. I mean, we are still kidnapped to a creepy giant empty space ship, but some people like it a lot better than where they came from anyway.

Um, so yes, I am dead, only now I'm not, because my eyes are normal, though, uh...none of that stuff makes too much sense, so Rufio and I decided mostly not to worry about it. Um. But in that instance, I meant in general. If any troll, not just me, survives to adulthood, they go to space, was what I was trying to convey.

No, no it's probably just me. I mean, I'm totally not hearing you wrong, it's just... [ her words trail off, and when she speaks again, the hint of a wry, helpless smile clings to her voice. ] Pretty much totally weird.
