Humans! [ Good, now that he has your attention. ] There is a sickness aboard this vessel, a Dark Beast that harbours rot and the ruin of any that approach it. I, myself, suffered injuries that have now healed. It is a skilled foe that walks in shadow, a warrior of the forsaken. It does not bleed when wounded or hesitate to give harm and it will kill you, should you be fool enough to challenge it. Unless, of course, it decides to keep you alive for sport — those mortals who deliberately put themselves at risk do so at their own peril. If you believe you are strong, I am here to tell you that you are not. Keep your corpses to a minimum.

Specifically: it carries a great chain that burns like embers, knows your mind and moves at incredible speed. Thranduil is aware of this demon, as are all those of Elvenkind aboard.

[ Nuada, who brings the network this message from the corridors where he is patrolling, peers into the camera with wolflike gold eyes. You may have seen them around recently, instead belonging to one massive six-foot hound. ]

To those who are not human, I say this; stay with your brothers and sisters, send word over a secure line if any of you are attacked. All manner of Aes Sidhe, from my world or not, are my concern.

[ What else? His manner eases ever so slightly, as it is wont to do between comrades. ]

Loki — we must speak concerning the forging of your weapon. It is time to take up arms worthy of your skill, my friend.

[It wasn't doubt in Galadriel, really, just denial. Thranduil glances away from her, slightly shamefaced.]

It took all the Valar last time, and all their armies in a war that ruined Beleriand. But that was when he had armies of his own, balrogs and dragons in legions. Here, he will not have his full strength.

[The biggest giveaway is probably how pale she is, though there is a hint of something in the eyes]

This isn't my jurisdiction. Whoever is in charge of it here, I haven't met.

[And she knows that, really, when she thinks about it. But she's afraid, which is something that sh is decidedly uncomfortable with- so, she may be just the slightest bit on edge as it is.]

And that may be our salvation.

[The fact that elves will not be harmed by this blade is not something that has escaped Loki's mind; rather, it is an important fact that has been filed away for later reference, highlighted and sure to be remembered. To say that he has not fought an elf recently would be a lie, given his latest return to his home, so assuming that he may not have issue with one again isn't something so easily said. Regardless, should it ever come to that, he does have his magic.

He considers that a potent weapon as any, if not more so.]

And did such men give you trouble often?

Some? I've found a few people willing to help and I've gotten together the lists made by my friends who've come and gone. I haven't come across the books that you've asked for.

You wouldn't have. [ because what say to that??? ] As long as you understand that.

We know many tales, in the north.

[And some tales that were real, too. Bran thinks of Old Nan and feels a little touch of guilt. He had grown very angry with her for a time, but she knew everything. She was wiser than he had thought, maybe.]

Bethmoora. Was it truly a city underground?

[Such a thing sounds half a tale itself, and Bran cannot keep the wonder from his voice. If it makes him sound more a child, then so be it.]

Thanks.

Did you really expect to say all of this and have everyone do absolutely nothing? I mean, I see your, er, superiority complex, and all, but come on.

[Bran listens, and tries to picture what is described to him. A place of some enchantment, if only in its beauty, and its harmony. And a city, where all were happy. It sounds like some dream.

But--it was a great city. He does not miss those words. It makes him think of Winterfell, its strong walls and secret places, the godswood and the glass gardens, the hallways and stone walls Bran could run with his eyes closed. All of it lost, burned and scarred and gutted. Its roots were deep, and someday maybe Winterfell would return, just the way summer would follow even the darkest winters. But could the same be said for Bethmoora, whatever its fate?]

I am sorry you are far from it.

[Perhaps that is all that he means--but Bran knows that it is not.]

I am sorry it was-- lost.

Got it. And can we tell you you're a fool for refusing legitimate help? Or at least not considering legitimate help, because there is legitimate help to be had here.

All fools aside. 'Cos there's fools, too, I won't deny that.

Ah, I do appreciate the sort of person who repays his debts; and tenfold, at that.

[A lopsided grin. He would eagerly tell Nuada of his own story if the opportunity ever presented itself -- as it stands, perhaps now is not the time.]

You must tell me about the world you come from, someday. I would be interested to learn.

I have heard that there are areas of the ship that serve many different spirits. Whether or not any of them are half-decent remains to be seen. An experiment to be had in the near future, would you not say?

[Jack looks like he doesn't really want to answer this question. But he does anyway.]

No, I'd be dead. But it would...grow back. And then I'd revive. I don't know how to describe it more specifically. I've been through worse, but I wasn't exactly there to witness it personally, you know? Let's just say that it would hurt like hell and leave me with a killer headache, but otherwise be pretty much none the worse for wear.

[Relatively speaking. His head will still have been cut off and had to have grown back, after all. He knows from personal experience that growing his body back hurts like hell. He kind of wishes he didn't, some days.]
