[Here is Combeferre, starring into the camera of his device, almost seeing past it still as a scalpel, aged, by the looks of it, rests loosely in his hand and his spectacles threaten to slip down his nose and onto the desk he's seated at. His mouth is set in a line, thinner than usual, and he seems to be looking for something to say.]
I would speak to anyone who has witnessed their past...who has seen it springing up before them again, whether with the jumps or not. I do not know what to do with what I have found and learned but I know that it is bad for me, that I...
[Some hesitation there, and then it's coming out, after the result of so many jumps that he has been here.]
...cannot go on with this. It seems the crisis point of a grave illness, the eleventh hour and I fear that I may need a source of outside help if I wish to be normal, even a bit normal, once again.
[And then he's glancing up, one side of the spectacles sliding over his cheek which he ignores for now.]
In other news, this heat.Is it me or does it seem to be worse now?

[Combeferre's smile is a bit strained, tired, but certainly grateful.]

It has seemed to be getting WORSE this month, though that MAY be me. It's why I ask. To gauge.

As am I. It is hardly the right time to arrive on board, I'd think.

That we have.
[Here, Combeferre's expression DOES darken because, well. Those who yet had lives to lead...it's hardly fair to them as it is to him. And the feeling of the ship messing with him and Smiley and...and now, with the bloody surgical tools that arrived in his locker this time arou...No. He can't lose hold of himself with a new person. Still he's clearly not entirely happy as he nods.]
There ARE those things which make this far more bearable, of course. It does not change that we are here, but even so...

[Right? Of course he is.]

[Combeferre's lip is quirking a bit there.]
Well, for my part, the libraries and the access to more advanced scientific equipment than at home, but the alcohol selection is not so bad itself. There IS a pub.

Oh. nothing like that. I was a doctor at home, and I studied science but...it was so far away in terms of time. It was 1832, where I was taken from, and the world's changed so much since then. But I HAVE been making something of a study of this ship and everything on it. It's only...it will take a long time to catch myself up.
But worth it, I think. The future is fascinating, really.
And you, in your life?

[he pauses. What can he even say?]
I'm not... I ain't anything. Just a kid.

Very far indeed.
[And that's a faint smile there. ]
Though I've met others from further back, actually. As strange as that must sound.
I don't know though.
[He's pushing his glasses up his nose a little, frowning thoughtfully.]
I'd say everyone is something, even when they haven't found it quite yet.

[Which is saying something, considering the place he comes from.]
I don't really do anything, though. Definitely ain't something fancy like a doctor or nothing.

It IS, definitely.
There are...let's just say that you WILL want to be careful of some things, if you can. Not traveling alone, that sort of thing. People here generally ARE good about accompanying you if you need it.
Well, I do next to nothing myself these days. I've been having some lessons on engineering with the engineers here but... I tend to blow things up so I've stepped back from it these days. Still, there tends to be a lot of things available.
