He'd tried to ignore it, and he knew speaking up might not lead to anything—for all he knew everyone on the ship was going to have him singled out as a crazy man after he made this post. But he wasn't one to stay quiet, not over something like this. Not after the last couple of months. ]

Okay, this might sound weird, but well, you know. Not like this is the most normal place, or anything. You know how we all went through some of the same stuff for the last couple of months? Insomnia, and all that? Well, now I'm getting flashes—not dreams, 'cause I'm awake, and they're kind of too real...almost like... Well, it's hard to explain, okay.

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed something like that.

Usually I would encourage a challenge, but this time it seems that it might be a little overzealous.

Yeah, challenging Smiley never seems to work out well. It's just a little bit rampant from what we can tell.

Yeah, pretty sure. A while back it decided to start moving all the hallways around, because apparently whoever designed the ship decided that giving the onboard AI that kind of ability was a great idea. People got lost for days.

Shutting off systems I can understand. But they have an AI that can actually physically change the hallways? You can't be serious.

I'm serious, and you may think it's unbelievable but it happened. You'd turn a corner, try to go back, and the hallway was different when you went back around the bend. I don't know how many dead ends I ran into. It's like it tries to force you to go a particular direction. In fact it ended up sending everyone who got lost to the same place.

Now that I think about it, you'd be surprised what rampancy can do to an AI. [she says with just a little too much experience.]

If he has the ability to shift hallways like that, I wonder if there's an endgame to all of this. Wouldn't the ship's AI want to do more than just toy with people?

An endgame? Hell, I don't know. It sure does seem to enjoy messing with us, that's all I've seen. But there are people who've had more interaction with the thing than I have who might have a better idea.

I wonder if his original programmers had intended this to happen, or if it's some consequence of the original crew either abandoning the ship or dying.

From what we know, this was a colonization ship before things went haywire. The pirates—we had pirates board the ship coupla' jumps back—they said the ship's famous 'cause it's been missing for I forget how long.

I'm surprised that there aren't any logs. If we could get access to them, we could see what our last known coordinates.


If they match our own known ones.

I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't any logs, but if there are, they're on the bridge anyway. No one has been able to get access to the bridge.
