[Connor's voice is soft and thoughtful. Actually, it sounds distinctly more like he's monologuing to himself than talking to his little glowing box. In fact, if he hadn't heard other voices coming out of it (and seen words on the glass front that disappeared when he touched it), monologuing would be exactly what he's doing, but he did hear voices so he suspects maybe his voice will come out of other glowing boxes somehow.
He's still pretty monotone, though.]
I find myself in need of a teacher. The...machines here are strange to me. Everything here is strange to me. In the absence of things familiar, I will need... allies-- [Not friends. Not yet, anyway.] --who are willing to help me.
[A brief silence and then:] There is a light on here. How is that made?

I can help you with figuring out some things, if you'd like. [If there's one thing she can do, and do well, it's adapt to the changing of the times.]
Re: Audio
And the voice sounds way too young to be helping anyone with anything but Connor was pretty young when he started with the saving people's lives thing, so who is he to judge?
He pokes at his little box until it does the thing that made voices come out again.]
Your assistance would be appreciated.
[Hello? Is this thing on?]

[ooc: I am so sorry! I thought I'd already replied to this but apparently didn't. /hangs head]
no worries!

The ship is being powered through the engines, I'd have to go down there myself to see for sure. I'd wager that given the size of this ship, there might be more than one system feeding into the power grid.
Re: ( voice. )
Poor confused Connor. When he finally speaks up again, there's finally some emotion in his voice and he sounds utterly lost.]
I apologize, I must have misheard you. Would you repeat that?
( voice. )
The ship is providing the energy required to keep the lights on, basically.
Re: ( voice. )
All of these lights are created by this ship? What kind of energy could make them so bright?

Could you elaborate?

On which part?

Monsieur, I cannot help you, but it is good to hear that you do not know these things. It makes me feel as if I am less stupid, because I do not know either. I think it is easier to just not ask - to say, 'oh, there is a light', and be grateful, Sir.
no subject
And oh! Is Connor mistaken or is she French? She sounds a bit French. That's neat. He's never actually met a French person before.]
I have learned a little now. [Like how to turn on the video--thanks, Carolyn! He still has no idea how it works, but hey, as long as it does, right? That's the important thing for now.] If you like, I will share with you what I know.
no subject
Would you really? Monsieur Prouvaire and his friends - they have helped me, Monsieur. But I am stupid, and I cannot bother such fine gentlemen over and over or they shall be fed up of me and tell me to go away. And here, it is so very difficult to go away.
But you do not mind? I can give you something in return - I have... I can give you a pillow, Sir.
[It's all she has that might be of any interest to Connor.]

[What an odd thing to offer anyway.]
I will come to you.

[ bethany lapses into thoughtfulness, herself. ]
That room we first arrived in--had water that emerged from small bits of metal. I would like to find out how that is accomplished, too.
no subject
You mean the showers. The water is fed through pipes; what I do not understand is how it is heated.
[Oh, and--] As far as lessons are concerned, I have learned a little myself. Carolyn is a fine teacher.
no subject
Yes, those. Do you know what pipes are? And unless there is a very large fire burning somewhere in this structure, the how of how the water is heated is also a mystery to me.
[ ah, a name! ] Thank you, ser. I shall have to seek her out.
