[ Peter's decided to show his face on film again, despite everything that's gone on the past week or so. Mostly he looks tired, eyes blood shot, moderately banged up. And then there's the fact that he looks immensely annoyed. ]

So-- question for everyone. Everyone who isn't busy trying to get better in the medbay. [ a brief moment of silence for those folks. ]

[ he folds his arms, gets down to business. ]

How many of you guys deal with this sort of thing on a daily basis back home? And by this sort of thing, I mean the monsters and the... whatever else they might have been. And if i'm calling them the wrong thing, go ahead and fill me in, i'd rather be an informed idiot than just an asshole.

Because me, personally? [ aaand his arms go uncrossed. which is to say, prepare for some intense gesticulation. use your imagination. ] I'm sort of caught somewhere in-between. Doesn't matter how many weird things happen, I still happen to think they're pretty damn weird. I'm just gonna have to go ahead and put some of the things i've seen into a category of absolute absurdity, but that? It sort of ranked up there with the worst of it.

And maybe what I want to know is, for the people who had to get used to this - y'know, those of you who weren't born into vampires and dinosaurs and bears, oh my - what the hell do you do to cope? Not to protect yourself, i'm not looking to take a class on self defense and deep breathing, but how do you relearn how to sleep at night? No pun intended. I sure as hell wasn't prepared to find monsters deciding the engineering department held answers to the universe. But I wasn't prepared for a chimera either, and I got past that one.

Do you all just get used to it? Or do we get better at pretending it doesn't actually matter?

I feel like this is a- it takes one to know one, situation.

[ There's no real humor in the brief smile she gives him. ] Seems that way, doesn't it? [ She shrugs a little. ] I've honestly wondered if it's a requirement to be pulled here.

That might explain why we all haven't completely gone off the rails. [ now he's just gone into utter theorizing mode. ] I mean- can you imagine? Never having gone through anything weird in your life, and then you're just suddenly in space?

Surprise more people don't lose it.

[ October shakes her head, although that sort of thing happened for her back home. One day, everything's normal and okay. The next, they're being chased down and killed by the ghost of a woman that was brought back via a video game. Sometimes, when she thinks about it, October wonders if she's already maybe lost her mind and just hasn't realized it.

But do crazy people ever consider the possibility that they might be crazy? ]

I'm glad they don't. The last thing we need up here is people going batshit and making it a million times worse in the rare moments that we actually get downtime.

[ But shouldn't more people be losing it? This shit just isn't normal, and Peter can't really help but think everyone is just on thin ice, seconds away from completely cracking and descending into insanity. A theory he'd blame on Walter, if only because the line between sanity and insanity is far different from how he used to view it. ]

Because the downtime's all that great to begin with. [ that was... mild sarcasm. ]

If more people went crazy it'd almost feel more like home, but it just seems like this place is big enough that you'd be able to hide it even if you did. Find some corner away from all the monsters and you'd never be seen again.

That doesn't sound like such a bad idea. [ It's mumbled more to herself than anything. Considering the fact that she got attacked by a friend recently, October's all for hiding out somewhere for the rest of eternity. ] Since the ship tends to fuck with you whenever you take a wrong turn somewhere, though, I'm pretty sure hiding out wouldn't do anyone any good.

I don't know, if you're already insane at that point, would it actually matter?

[ He definitely tried not to sound pissed off with that particular comment, but it's there and proof that there's still shit he's been mad about ever since he arrived. And he doesn't really manage to sound guilty about it, either. ] Only so much damage they can do after being stuck in the brig.

[ Her eyebrow quirks slightly. ] You got locked in the brig? [ Why else would he sound that pissed off about this whole thing? ]

Me? [ he snorts. ] No, it was just an example. Hypothetical.

If you say so. [ Not like she really cares. Unless he's out there attacking people, then she cares a lot. A lot. ] You just sounded kinda pissed about something.

Can I use the excuse that i'm pissed off about being kidnapped? [ that totally works, right. ]

Just this once. I won't let it slide next time.

So I'm already getting a next time, huh.

It's a small ship, [ she shrugs. That's not entirely true, but it definitely feels that way sometimes. ] We're bound to run into one another again eventually.

[ there are so many horrible, trashy ways he could take that. but he won't. because he's a good boy. ]

Promise I won't bring up the brig next time around. [ ... well that still sounded potentially dirty. ] Unless you want me to.

[ just running with it now, whoops. ]

[ Pfft. Good boys are overrated. ]
