You'll forgive me for what a horrendous goody-two-shoes this makes me sound like, but I have got to find a productive way to fill my time here. I'm one of those crazy people who doesn't mind learning and/or working (I mean I have my limits and skills like anyone but hey) so.

I guess this is a reverse help-wanted ad, sorta?

Ah, l'aventurier! I hope you are well?

If you are searching out a project and have any interest in botany, I have set out to catalogue the flora of the oxygen gardens and map the locations of the various blooms as best as possible. Your help would be most welcome.

Otherwise, as far as I am aware, there are positions open for labour on board, along with a number of personal projects by passengers, including the construction of a library and the archiving of passenger reports.

I am! As well as I'm going to be here, anyway.

I admit I don't know a single thing about botany, but it sounds a little more my speed than constructing things, at least. I'm not so much for hard labor, not that I'm totally opposed to it, I just don't have a lot of practice.

Got any skills?

I'm a college student back home. So cheerfully learning new things and also, if you'll pardon the term, bullshitting are the big ones.

College student. Good thing no one's asking you for a 500 word essay about where you think you belong.

An essay would be the least of your worries.
It's the engineer and her captain you gotta look out for.

liking learning isn't crazy. what kinda stuff do you like to learn about?

I'll give anything a try. I'm a little more humanities and a little less hard sciences, but I'm not opposed to much.

not sure there's much in the way of humanities jobs. i think someone was on the network asking about books a while ago, but can't remember who. can look it up if you'd like though.

most departments could probably use people. i'm not really the one to be recruiting for it but i work in comms, we watch the network and do computery things, if that sounds cool we could always use help. you don't have to know programming to start. i didn't when i started.

also there's the community noticeboard here, they always remind people about it after a jump.

Yeah that was kind of the thing. I'm pretty much useless with anything that's to do with stuff like building and maintaining.

Not really a programmer, either, but I mean, I took a class in graphic design once. Probably not too useful, but.

i don't know what you can do with graphic design. make posters? help out with the welcome post that goes up after every jump?

It was just an example. My point is, I'm up for learning.

Though there is something kind of amusing about the idea of being kidnapped into space to make posters.

it's okay, considering where we are, "fun" is relative. but you can always try it and quit if you don't like it, it's not like a real job.

i don't know but that makes sense. a tutor in whatever you want to teach i guess.

Career counselors counsel you on potential careers. That's the actual point of them. So far you're more helpful than a lot of the ones I ever talked to back home.
