For those of you that knew him, Cambridge (SCI » 011 » 015) is longer aboard the ship.

[ That's it, that's the post. Any responses will be delayed by a couple of hours while Oxford lurks angrily in his room, waiting out his headache and trying to resist the urge to destroy what few possessions he has (you'll have more luck if you simply turn up on his doorstep). ]

This is an impressive fucking role reversal.

I feel we should all drop our ability to punctuate for a day in his honor.

Isn't it just. The ship has a strange sense of symmetry.

Yes, of all Cambridge's qualities, his lack of punctuation was most striking, after all.

[ Pity text doesn't really put across sarcasm, but Oxford's not really in the mood to react in any way except snappish right now. ]

Of course I'm sure. This isn't the sort of thing I would blithely announce to the whole ship without being certain.

Considering your flawless track record of making rationally well thought out announcements while under emotional duress, you'll have to forgive how sceptically I view that statement.

There's a difference between the emotional responses experienced in conjunction to losing your mind, Josias, and coming to the conclusion that a friend is no longer here. I could not find him in the medical bay, no response from his room, no response from his communicator. He is not here.

It was the general certainty of it not being the sort of thing you'd blithely announce that I was contesting, not the facts. I'd checked his communicator in the time you took to reply.

Thank you for that assessment, it will be duly ignored.

Something else has crawled up your arse today, though. Where's the attitude coming from? I hardly think you would turn to menial bitching simply because a friend has departed.

Saying "just a friend" has departed doesn't quite manage to cover the fact one of the only people qualified and capable of curing my current condition has BUGGERED OFF.

Perhaps he'll do what you do so well.

Believe me, it is a fate I can live with and accept. Worse things can happen, and probably will happen.

It seems that you clearly haven't spent enough time in my company to be making such remarks, because I'm perfectly capable of losing my charm with or without Cambridge's presence here.

Not in such a horrendous fashion like this. The other one tends to be a bit more, subtle, so to speak. If my guess is correct, soon you'll be treating us to poetry of the rather depressing sort because you can't be bothered to try and put on a good face.

I'm fond of that face. It's more enjoyable than this. And yes, far more charming.

Perhaps you'll be surprised. Besides, when it comes to poetry, there is plenty of beauty to be appreciated even in the most mournful verses.

I'm not as hopeless a cause as you seem to envision.

Only when one feels melancholy enough to enjoy them. I tend to not find myself in that state.

Can you prove it? Or am I hearing the claims of a man who would prefer to lie to himself?

A shame. He did owe me a cup of tea.

I can imagine he's left behind more than one of the odd little debts or promises here. Any of us would if we left.

Some of us are careful not to make promises we'd not be able to keep.

It's a shame, regardless.

Would that we all took such care.

If it's all the same to you, I would not mind honouring his involuntarily abandoned debts by providing you that cup of tea, sometime.

What a gentleman you are. If it's no intrusion, I'd take you up on that offer at your earliest convenience.
