.001 | Video }

[Helen had given herself time to adjust to her new surroundings before addressing the network. Finally sitting down with the device in front of her, she turns on the video feed.]

I’m given to understand we’re stranded on this ship until such a time as it reaches its destination. And that no one has found a viable method of returning to our home worlds.

However, it’s vitally important that I return to where I’m most needed. Is there anyone here able to tell me what happens in our own worlds during our stay here? How could so many have been taken without their absences being noticed?

Any information you could share would be greatly appreciated.

[There’s a small pause as though she’s considering something. She never has liked sitting idle.]

In the meantime, I’d like to offer my services. Perhaps the medical staff could use another pair of hands.

[The message comes from "Ryuuzaki." His voice is young, low, and smooth, with an English accent that isn't as pronounced as it might be.]

Is it important?

Life goes on without us, or it doesn't. We don't seem to have much say in the matter.

[This is more frustrating to him than he lets on, but he's curious about how she'll react.]

[ Josh sounds sympathetic, if a bit weary. He's spent half his time here trying to figure out how this crap filters back to wherever they come from. ]

If you're looking for an explanation that makes any sense, you're probably not going to have much luck. Consistency isn't really in this place's vocabulary. But from what I've seen - if it sends you back, it'll send you to the same time it took you from.

[ The second topic's easier. ]

And medical's always looking for another pair of hands. I'm just a nurse, but I can give you the right number to chase down if they don't get in touch with you first.

Seems like the world just keeps moving as if we never left. You can get sent home and brought back too, it doesn't seem like anything here effects what happens there.

The medical staff is always in need of individuals. I could direct you there, if you'd like. Sometimes that's the best way to offer your services.

It seems like this operates outside of all other timelines. Sometimes people disappear and come back with new memories. It depends. But so far, no clear cut explanations to be found.

I'm sure the medical staff would appreciate any help they could gather. Seek out a man named Simon Tam he'd be able to tell you more of that department than I'm able.

[ He doesn't sound entirely thrilled with the details, but that's mostly because he ended up back here. ]

Certain it can happen. I left and picked up at the same spot, no gaps - but it might not be the same for everyone. And I can just send you the medbay roster, it'll have info on who you should look up.

[ Then there's a pause, and he looks like he's considering whether or not it'd be rude to pry. (He does it anyway, obviously). ]

Can I ask where you're from?

You go back like you never left and you don't remember being here. [He shrugs.] Then you come back here. Most assume that's what happens to people who leave and don't come back, but that's the optimistic version of things. Don't think anyone gets out of here permanently.

A phenomenon like this - a crossing of dimensions - occurs on occasion in my world. I can't say it's the same, but it might give insight, at least.

[ Though the Conjunction of the Spheres or the whole Wild Hunt abduction thing doesn't really... reassure much. ]

[You can practically hear the relief.]

We do have a small group of passengers who aren't human. I'm not sure they're anything you've seen before, but if you have some experience with that sort of thing, we could definitely use you.

[ A nod, and he thinks on how to start for a second. Sort of long, so get settled in for an info dump. ] Something we call The Conjunction of the Spheres occurred a couple thousand years ago - two dimensions crossed, and both humanity and magic was brought into the land I'm from. As well as the monsters I spoke to you about before. That was the singular mass collision of differing worlds.

More powerful mages and sorceresses are able to summon creatures and entities from other dimensions, or send an apparition of themselves, but one never really completely crosses over in that scenario. [ He pauses, brow knitting for a moment. This last part is more personal and a bit more vague in his mind. ]

A second instance is the Wild Hunt. Typically, it's regarded as legend, but in actuality, a cavalcade from a world that must be in frequent contact with ours send spiritual emanations of themselves. They abduct children. Usually, at least. They vanish for what can be decades, and reappear later, not having changed in the slightest, immune to the touch of time.

With no memory of where they'd been. [ A pause, eyes narrowing a little. ] Contact with the phenomenon often causes amnesia. Aside from that, I can't say how it's done or why. [ A brief frown, but it passes. ] As I said, it could have nothing to do with this, but it's all I know that's similar.
