007 -- video;
[ irene's wearing her tweed suit, buttons opened at the collar, waistcoat undone. there's a large golden lab sitting beside her, glorying in the way irene's scratching behind his ears. ]
It seems Baron Vladimir Harkonnen has left us. A true shame. He may have been the only man aboard this ship who properly appreciated the opera, and it's always lovely, finding someone with whom one shares a common interest.
[ there's a pause. the dog's mouth opens, tongue lolling out. irene smiles at that, before addressing the device again. ]
I've been here a year, with this passing jump. More than I thought I would, when I last onsidered the matter. I'd had several suggestions as to what to do to celebrate, if celebrate is the word I should use. None of them are quite to my taste, though I'm not sure such a dubious milestone should go unappreciated.
[ she gives a quiet little hum of thought, then raises her shoulder in an uncharacteristic shrug. ]
But I digress. Tell me, is the owner of this fine animal aboard anywhere? I found him in my doorway, but I doubt he's the ship's way of congratulating me on my stay. Majestic though he is, I'd say the menagerie this ship's acquiring really doesn't need any new additions roaming loose.

I thought I'd make the most of my appearance on this device. Why waste an opportunity?

[She thinks very similarly, after all. But then she hums, thoughtful.]
Which gives us the opportunity to brainstorm a proper "Congratulations on Surviving for a Year" party.

[ a beat, and then. ]
We'd have our work cut out for us, you realize. This isn't an atmosphere well suited to parties.
no subject
That makes the rewards all the sweeter, don't you think? I for one would want a fabulous party if I survived in a place like this for a year.
no subject
And what would you want for your party? I imagine it would be rather different from what I'm used to.
no subject
Expensive liquor and good company are really the only two things I could see myself wanting.
A 'Congratulations on your survival' cake seems a little tacky.
no subject
But your first two suggestions do have a lovely ring to it.

I'm sure we could procure some expensive liquor somewhere. There's definitely an abundance on this ship.
As for the good company, I can think of a few.

[ because guest lists are important. ]
no subject
[this is a guest list, yes, but it's also a bit of curiosity about relationships; she can't help it.]

[ they share corsets, it's a thing. ]

Oh, and there's that dangerously charming Neal Caffrey--
no subject
And Neal. Dangerously charming does sum him up very well. Men like him don't come around often, do they?
no subject
But yes, I'm not surprised you know him too. That combination of good looks and charm is just so hard to come by.
[aside, of course, from them. they've all got it already.]
no subject
And thank heavens we've come by it, or it would be deathly dull up here.

[she has to mock the horror genre, it makes her life bearable in a place like this.]
Though you won't ever hear me complaining about that, except perhaps to complain that I've never met such charming people back home.
no subject
[ and who is more charming than irene? ]
no subject
When you put it like that, it's all so very clear.
You're right, of course. My horizons have been...expanded quite a bit by my acquaintances here.
