2.01 -- video;

[ this five month sojourn hasn't been kind to keller. he's dangerously underweight, gaunt as a motherfucker. somehow trimming his beard hasn't done much to improve his appearance. keller looks more or less unbothered by all of this, fingers tapping on the comm for a long moment before a smile flicks onto his face. ]

Leaves a lot to be desired, you know, this part. [ he gestures up and around at the medical bay. ] I forgot how much noise you people make.

[ keller's voice is rusty, low and grating. it's off just enough to be jarring, as if he's lost track of how to pitch his tone. his fingers tap against the comm again, beating out the tune of a song. ]

While I'm here, who's left? I heard half of you whining a couple weeks ago. That much hasn't changed, huh?

[ there's a breath of silence, keller's gaze skittering up and away, expression flickering into something unreadable. ]

Caffrey, you still kicking around? Give a guy a holler, yeah?

[ ooc | keller's been hanging out in the ship for five months, so he's a malnourished, dehydrated wreck and won't be leaving medical. dibs go to neal for first visit then it's open season for other shenanigans. ]

[ neal doesn't have to fake the shock on his face, his own gaunt face-- nothing close to keller's, but something gamine, nearly feral around the eyes connecting them-- drawn into clearer lines as his eyes widen. ]

Where the hell have you been?

[ pot, kettle. moving on. ]

[ and now the widening of his eyes is hope, quick and before he can cram it back. ] Himself?

That what the kids are calling Him these days?

[ christ, but all keller's edges are showing, sharp and wanting, the way he used to be before he learned to hide all those covetous ways. ]

[ She'd just been talking about him, just narrowly skirting over the fact that he'd vanished in the middle of the month, that he hadn't showed up again -- that he was probably dead.

And here he is, and there's a moment where Jaye gapes at him, scrambling for something to say that isn't... well, mushy. ]

You stole my underwear.

[ ... well, it's a start. ]

It's what I'm calling Him.

[ and sharper, now. ]

Keller, is it what we're calling Him?

[ this is important. keller's expression loses some of it's blankness, and the smile he offers up is like bared teeth. ]

Better than anything I came up with, so yeah, that's what we're calling Him.

[ neal's smile back is just as barbed. ]

You always did like stealing my things.

[ and then he sighs, something rapturous and almost greedy lurking in the back of his eyes. ]

This whole time?

[ speak of the keller and he appears. ]

You left them.

[ there's a pause before that, like it takes keller time to dig back and try to remember. ( it doesn't really feel real, but he isn't sure if this is the dream or if-- ) ]

He set me up so nice I couldn't bring myself to leave.

[ the off quality to keller's tone is what makes that statement so unsettling, the noticeable wrong coloring his words. ]

I couldn't find them.

[ She isn't sure she bothered looking very hard. She's also belatedly wondering whether she should have locked this, since Peter hadn't seemed to appreciate the mention of Keller, but... oh well. ]

You're... [ Jaye raises a hand, bandages around her wrist, and pinches her neck. ] I didn't take too many pain meds on accident, did I?

He led me back, said He hadn't forgotten about me.

[ there's a hint of jealousy in neal's voice; did you replace me? eloi eloi lama sabachthani? ]

Is Himself any better of a conversationalist now? I tried to teach Him, I really did, but it never seemed to take.

[ there's smug edging into keller's expression, because this is still the eternal competition, and keller still likes feeling like the winner. ]

Nah, He wasn't much of a talker. But He left me some company to fill the silence. Thoughtful guy, right?

[ his eyes flick to her wrist then to her face, appraising. there's a disconnect, like a line between then and now. it's something to consider, the amn he used to be. ]

I was hanging on to them.

[ not that keller knows where any of his shit is, so. ]

Fun with science experiments, [ she offers quickly, an explanation for the bandages; it's one she's using over and over, because it sounds better than "some mutants nearly ripped my fucking limbs off". ]

Well, Neal took your shit and wouldn't go through it to give them back, so... whenever you're out of there, I guess you'll still have them to hang onto.

[ For... whatever reason. ]

You're- [ she licks her lips, tries to figure out what she wants to say. ] You were out there? This whole time? [ And she'd thought a month alone was bad. Keller had been to see her afterward, too -- she makes a note to force herself back down to medical, to continue to keep away from any doctors looking at her but at least visit. ]

Company, really? What kind of company?

[ and the competition fades for a moment; mad or not, they know their give and take. ]

[ the only thing heard is the sound of a plate shattering on the floor followed by an exclamation of shit. ]

[ and guess who is about the least happy camper right now? peter is! it shows in how his voice has an edge of pure annoyance when he says one very simple word. ]

Keller.

[ This reply only comes after Nathan has done some research. While you've been gone, Keller, he's been archiving everything on the network, making it so he can search most of it by identity. Also he's suspicious about the talk about noise, and whining, because there's that mysterious message... Wonder who sent that? ]

How you managed to debut your return without a wall of poetry, I have absolutely no idea.

Are you still inclined to airlock those you consider to be a threat?

Mr. Keller. What a surprise. [Sark's tone is drier than the Sahara. What? You were expecting him to salivate or scream like a teenage girl at a BSB concert? NAH.]

[he's not actually on screen, despite the video giving a great view of the ceiling where the device is balanced on one of the rafters]
