[It's not very often that Asato makes a post to the network, preferring to read and hear what others have to say, offering bits of awkwardly-worded input when he thinks it could be useful. He's not one to draw attention to himself, and though it might seem difficult for a relatively big guy with cat ears and a tail, he tends to manage it too.

He's just a quiet guy minding his own cat business, part of which he's spent in the gardens, carefully tending to something each and every day. The result of nearly a year of watering, trimming, checking and double-checking, is what he moves the video feed to quickly after he sees the feed is on, offering only a quick glimpse of his face.]

I have--these.

["These" being a little pile of some kind of fruit. They're somewhere between a peach, an apple, and a currant, the size of a baseball at their largest, ranging from magenta to purple in color. He can't show it through the feed (much as he wishes he could!), but the scent that's coming from them is a strong mix of sweet, sour, and spicy.]

Kuims. Is what they're called. I planted them. I can't eat all of them, but I don't want them to go bad. [Which is why he's happy to offer some to whoever wants to stop by in the gardens and try them out.]

They're really good. In my world, lots of people like these the best. [A great advertiser he is not, but he's trying, and his enthusiasm is genuine.]

Please come have some. I don't need anything in return for them. Um... They're good in cakes, too. [That...should wrap things up, he figures, so the feed gives a shake, comes back to his face one more time, and clicks off.]

It's alright. You didn't die.

[So that's the worst of his worries cleared up--he'd worried that Murphy was dead somewhere in the depths of the ship, like too many others have been so far. He didn't want to believe it was the truth, but denying the possibility seemed just as unreasonable. So he means what he says in the most relieved possible way.]

These will help you feel better.

Rock wool. [He echoes it slowly with a twitch of his ears, stepping closer to have a look at the little cube in Netherland's fingers.] It doesn't look like a rock. Or like wool.

[He looks up from the cube at Netherlands after making that observation, somewhere between simply declaring what he sees and questioning what that's all about, what they're for. Beyond "put a seed in the ground and it will grow" he doesn't have a clue how planting works. But if Netherlands says it's not hard, then he believes him, and he'll try his best not to prove that claim wrong.]

[He hopes. Murphy actually has a reason to keep going no, and he'd rather keep it that way for as long as possible.]

Just be careful out there, Murphy.

[Not that he doesn't expect him not to be, but he can never just not worry about him. Definitely not after having him go missing for a bit.]

Don't worry, I'm not plannin' to make a habit outta this.

[None of it was really planned at all. He's still waffling over the possibilities of whether this whole ordeal had been deliberate or accidental, that maybe it had happened as a result of his own negligence to certain detail.

[Obviously, Murphy hasn't put too much thought into it as of late. Too much is on his mind as it is to worry about those things as he sighs.]

Alright.

[It'll be nice seeing Asato again, anyway. Familiar faces after days spent in the winding hallways is a goddamn godsend.]

No--No, it's not like that. [ Brendan normally gets annoyed but with this guy, it's kind of hard to. Maybe because he's obviously not from Earth, with all this talk about kuims and the long tail behind him. His tone is a lot more gentle than normal. ]

I tend not to bump gums like the rest of the crew on this crate, dig? I mean-- [ Try harder, Brendan. HE takes a breath. ] People say the way I talk is slang in their berg.

[There comes a moment right after where Asato just doesn't say anything, staring at Brendan as his head follows a slow, slight tilt. Are they speaking the same language? Is this the way gees talk? The guy doesn't seem to be mad at him, so Asato isn't upset, but he's still confused.

Something about the way he talks--that's all he caught.

He looks to the kuim he handed over to Brendan, frowns, and looks back to the rest.] ...Do you want a different one?

Uhm, sort of? I can follow a recipe, especially if it's one on the back of a box. Or one where my sister's telling me what i'm supposed to buy for her and then she mixes it all together. I'm not sure if I can do something off the top of my head, though. Maybe something easy?

Not sure if it's worth a try in my case. [ Oh, Chuck. ] But I might know someone else who can bake.

[So they're in just about the same boat when it comes to cooking. Asato knows how to hold meat over fire so he can eat it, and he's been able to feed himself just fine so far, but baking anything is a different matter. He only knows that kuims are good in cakes because someone else has made them for him.]

I know Ned could. The piemaker. But I don't know about anyone else. They don't really mention it very much.

Asato, [He returns the greeting, smiling easily.] I can if you set some aside for me, do you have requests?

[Though Murphy can't see it, Asato gives a slight nod. He believes Murphy when he says he's not going to make it a habit, and the further details of it, the little intricacies in what Murphy thinks and wants, he'll let Murphy decide whether or not he wants to let him in on. The most important part is covered: he's back, and he's--alive.

Alive is good.

His sense of manners doesn't cover him enough to make him say more than he has, so he clicks his device off and puts it aside until Murphy comes around, always diligent in minding his harvest. It'll be a relief, seeing Murphy instead of just hearing him over the communicator, almost as if he can't fully settle down until he's seen him in the flesh, with all limbs still securely attached.]

I'll try. I usually take third shift in the Garden.

[Texting is hard, why does it have to be so hard.

Anyway--he goes through his same routine again, picking out a nice kuim to give to Dave in the hope that these will be to his liking, even if they're not much like apples at all. He'll understand, right? Maybe he'll even like these better.

Always keeping an eye out in the direction of the garden's entryway, he takes some time to relax here while he waits for Dave to show up. The first level might not be the jungle, which he likes best, but it's still peaceful, and he enjoys the rich, verdant scent that surround him here. When Dave comes in, he might catch Asato with his knees pulled up to his chest and his chin resting on his knees, eyes closed as he drowses just slightly.]

[ Sure enough, Dave crosses the threshold that separates stone cold steel ship from lush green garden soil and bam, right there is sleepy cat. Cant help but smile ever so slightly. ]

Wow, I take ten minutes to get here, and that's long enough for you to start catching up on the z's? Must be a slow day.

[His ears perk in the direction of Dave's voice before Asato blinks back to alertness, shaking his head slightly to help wake him up again. Can't fault a cat for taking a nap, right?]

Dave. [Acknowledgment first, that name and a smile, before he stands, rolls his shoulders in a stretch, and holds his fist out in Dave's direction in anticipation of a greeting-bump.]

Not slow. I just like it here. It's quiet.

No--No. [ A light shake of his head as Brendan disagrees with whatever he had been thinking. ] Just got a habit of holing up in my head before I do anything.

[ It looks damn good. Smells awesome. Tentatively, tentatively, Brendan's going to take a bite. Aaaaand-- ]

Huh. That ain't half bad.

[Alive is good. Even if there are moments right now where the success is bittersweet. He'd revel in it if he wasn't feeling so goddamn miserable at the same time.

[Fuck.

[Right now he at least has the prospect of berries and food, berries and food. He needs berries and food -- and food. At least it's felt that way ever since he got back.

[Even though it's been a few days, he still carries a worn out and haggard look that's haunted him since his close shave with death. That much can't be hidden when he tracks down Asato. The most he can do is try and haul his own weight, and cover what that gashes in his chest and stomach and doctor his hands up to his best ability.

[Because fuck the police medbay.]

[Murphy is grateful that Netherland's was kosher with letting him take a few days off. The walk isn't even too far from the lift and already Murphy is starting to feel worn out on his way to meet Asato.]

Uh. [Blink. He glances back and forth from the cube to Asato, not sure if he wants to bother explaining it.] No. Guess not.

[Anyway. Rather than explain that it's something about how it's made - he's not sure if it's the same here and really it's not that important - he clears his throat and tilts the cube to show off the little indention in the middle.]

All ya have to do is put the seed in there and put it back in the tray. There's a place where we start everything, keeps them warm an' moist until they sprout. After that we put 'em in the right row.
