Hello people of Tranquility!!!

First, let me just express my gratitude for the daring rescue y'all executed. That's right. I'm gonna get all mushy here. Brace yourself, it doesn't happen often. I mean, things weren't looking too good back where I came from. I was about to kick it- buy that crappy 'ol farm those people tell you about. Not only did ya take care of all of my injuries, but I got what y'all call a "second chance".

Sure, life's not going to be the same, but I'm a real go-getter. It took me a couple days to actually realize what happened, but that metaphorical fog's lifted. Going to get back on that horse, even if it isn't diamond encrusted like my last one. Sure, still sucks that I won't ever get revenge on those psychopaths that killed my daughter and basically ruined everything I worked for... but I'm alive, aren't I?

See? You know what we got there? That cute, itty bitty little thing? That's a silver lining, kiddos.

Now the question here is.... what to do with this second chance. What to do, what to do....

Not a lot of people get this lucky. Do you know if the crew has a thing for reviving the near-deceased. Like. Is it a thing? I mean, depending on who you talk to, you'd get some pretty damn grateful people on board...

Try getting that optimism to rub off on other people? Just a suggestion. [ a bad one but in the midst of current events, it's nice to see someone say it like it is. without secrets. without hiding anything. being grateful for being kidnapped.. or maybe just putting an uncommon spin on it. ] I don't think I've ever talked to anyone this happy to be here.

You're taking all of this a little too well.

Well, it's not like this is a first class ride or anything, but it's the simple pleasures such as living that's pushing that optimism.

I wish there were more people like you. [ he knows a few passengers that have a second chance here, either because they had died at home or were looking at a rocky future that said they would be eventually. didn't have to be a fact to be a huge possibility. this ship is awful and he wants to leave (for his friends) but he can't want anything that strongly when he knows it's darkness that never ends waiting for him. ] Maybe the best thing you can do is work for something else. I doubt any department would turn you down if you asked.

I am a top notch programmer. By the looks of things... this place can do with a little sprucin' up. I haven't seen equipment this old in person, I remember reading about crap like this when I was just a little tyke.

They're always looking for new hands. [ it should probably strike him as disturbing that this guy went from talking about the loss of a child to getting on with his life but he's used to fast paces. he doesn't think much of it. ] I'm guessing Communications or Engineering? They're not hard to track down if you check the network.

[ he has no names to offer directly off the top of his head, mostly because he's not involved in any department. he doesn't want to be tied to just one. ] If this is ancient, I'm not sure I want to know what spaceships are like where.. or when you're from.

[He's already gone through shock and denial... and while he worked through some of his anger back home he was currently working with the "bargaining" phase of his grief... no one needs to be a part of that, needless to say complete strangers.] Engineering doesn't sound half bad. It'll be like I'm getting in touch with my roots.

What can I say, things are pretty impressive where I'm from. Of course I had my hand in a lot of it.
