I think I'll skip the niceties and cut right to the chase: I'm looking for a man who looks like me. Older, not a lot up here. [He motions to his hair.] If you see him, let me know.

To say he's "dangerous" would be an understatement.

[Now, moving on. Joe rubs his jaw, which has got a nice, faint bruise, and glances away from the camera for a moment. Then, he looks back at it.]

Also. What kinds of jobs are out there for someone who's good with a gat? [Well, a blunderbuss, but hey, Joe can fire a gat just as well.]

I think he'd rather put off dealing with me, but if I were him [Which he is.] I'd be keeping an eye out for me.

The thing is, I disappeared for a month. I need to make sure he didn't turn up while I was gone.

I haven't seen him specifically. He could be lying low. I'm sure you understand what that means. [That the man in question may not be coming back, even if he is here.]

How long were you here before?

Just long enough to get my bearings, but not long enough to get settled. [Or you could say "A month," Joe.] I hear I missed quite a month.

It seems hard to get settled here in any case, for a lot of people.

[And he's guessing that if someone is using the term "gat" for a gun, space might not be the easiest and most familiar home for them--second home, first home, location. L is comfortable with the concept of space travel, but not with a place for himself in it.]

What have you heard about it? I can tell you that it was unsettling to have no clear idea of when or if any of the people who were stuck in stasis would wake up.

Just that people were in a coma or... sleeping for the month. That they might've had some bad dreams. Anything else happen?

[Okay, offer more to the conversation than that, Joe.] Not my weapon of choice, but it's got more range than a blunderbuss.

Oh. [ So much for asking what a blunderbuss is. But, more to the point, the first part of the message actually hits Jeremy. His sister has dealt with just that, a dangerous doppelganger. He hardly thinks this guy has one but you can never be too safe. So, he'll ease into the subject. No, he's Jeremy, he'll just outright ask. ] What's so dangerous about the guy that looks like you?

He kills people, and he's pretty good at it, too. [Better than Joe, if the old man's idea of "fixing" things is what Joe thinks it is. Joe's pretty good with a blunderbuss and an immobilized target, but he's no match for an army of gat men. And judging by the blood all over his loop's clothes when he last saw him-- blood that wasn't his-- Joe figures it's a safe bet that there aren't many gat men left standing back home.] He may be old, but I wouldn't underestimate him.

[ SOUNDS LIKE KATHERINE. OR, DUDE-KATHERINE. ]

You sure he's somewhere on here?

[ That's probably a safe bet. Oh. Old. Well, that blows his doppelganger idea out of the water. Katherine looks exactly the same. Though, if someone had a doppelganger -- like Elena is Katherine's ... and Katherine didn't age because she's a vampire but his sister would.. have he has to remind himself. She's a vampire now. Mixed feelings about that. But, is this guy? ]

He's older? And he looks like you? Is he a family member? [ still riding the doppelganger train here ]

No, I'm not sure. But he was with me before I came here, so you never know. Figure it's better to be safe than sorry.

[There's a distinct pause before he answers the next question.]

And yeah. Family.

[Joe's not exactly the best liar, so he may not be totally... convincing right now. But he figures it's a better answer than "He's me from 30 years in the future." That's a can of worms he doesn't wanna open.]

Right. [ Warn the people, make them panic. God, he'd have the council with pitchforks back in Mystic Falls. Ever hear of low profile?

Huh. Interesting answer. But he asked. Seriously, though, this is all screaming doppelganger. For the record. The cagey family didn't help him. ]

Will he have a gat or a, what was the other one?

[He kind of wants a mob with pitchforks, just so he'll quickly know if his older self ever pops up. JOE'S STRATEGIZING: NOT THE BEST.]

Blunderbuss? He's only got a gat, far as I know. I mean, this ship just beams you up with whatever you've got on you, right?

I thought so. But, there's stuff I didn't have on me that ended up here. So, I don't think there's any sure thing.

Great. So I guess I'm in for a surprise if he ever shows up. [Maybe he'll get lucky and the ship will just give Old Joe NO GUNS AT ALL. Right...]

[He's hesitant to offer much information on his loop, but then again, if he can get others on their guard, it'll probably be easier to root the old man out, if he ever shows.]

Sadly, he wouldn't be the only one like that I'm sure. [ granted, she is just assuming that over half the people on the ship are potential killers and people not to be trusted. ]

If you need something to do though, you could just talk to Detective Blake or Tyke. I'm sure one of them would be willing to help you with whatever you might need.
