[the feed opens to complete darkness. the view doesn't change though. instead, it sounds very much like he's talking to someone already. and maybe he is.]

[okay, hold on a second. someone's interrupted him. too bad you can't hear what's being said.]

No. I just- I don't like it, and they'll get rid of it. They can...hide it, or-

[oh hi. that's another inaudible interruption. this time when he speaks again, the camera is lifted from his lap to show a certain mask that's sat by his feet. a mask that looks an awful lot like this. it's only briefly in focus though because castiel is only able to look at it for a moment; his attention off toward that silent voice again soon after.]

...I want it gone.

[he actually sounds...a little calmer and happier after his next break. the voice has actually helped out this time. slightly.]

Dean, or Meg, or anyone.

ooc; so...basically cas ended up putting the mask on and it's triggered his lucifer hallucinations to kick back in again. enjoy?

[Is this what's going to happen every time she leaves you alone? She's going to get you that leash a lot quicker than she realized. She had managed to at least figure out to get a ping to her device when his channel went live. It's just... this isn't good. Considering everything she's been seeing about these masks, she knows this is very not good.

Her hand runs through her hair, frowning at the feed as she watches that broken conversation. She's heard it before and it's slightly unsettling.]

Castiel. [Her tone is concerned, because she's not really sure how she's going to be able to help with this particular issue.]

Where are you? [The way the ship moves, she'd prefer to know that he wants her to show up.]

I, uh. I don't know. I just- I flew away, and now I'm here and I don't want to touch it again but it keeps following me.

[he looks across to his side for a moment, frowning. sorry about that, meg. lucifer really is a dick sometimes.]

You're not allowed to say that about her.

[She frowns, trying to sort out if she can feel him. It's a clear presence in her mind, but since arriving here it's a bit more... murky.]

I can find you, if you want, Castiel. Despite your present company, apparently.

[there's a slow nod, before he's leaning closer toward the device, his voice far quieter now. he knows it isn't enough to keep lucifer from overhearing- knows that lucifer isn't even there -but he still tries for that moment of privacy regardless.]

He's not meant to be here.

[She clears her head, trying to focus on him as she also listens to him.]

I know, but he's never been on to stay out of places he's not allowed.

[She finds him. It's a white hot spot and in a second she's stepping out of the shadows near him.]

[he's busy staring at the space next to him when meg arrives, and it's only when lucifer looks up at her that castiel follows suit. despite his urge to go straight to her side, it's lucifer's mockery that keeps him sat where he is.]

I'm not a child. And even I know that isn't funny.

[but hi there meg. he's just going to tug the edge of his coat closer to himself so she has space to sit down.]

[ gosh, that mask really doesn't look well-meaning at all, does it? have a concerned- if slightly curious-sounding voice. ]

Ah -- sir? Are you alright?

[ well, maybe that was a stupid question. ]

If you want your mask placed somewhere out of reach, perhaps I could be of some use?

[The disconnected conversation is harder to hear in person. She knows how Lucifer can be. The twisting of truth, the needling of the things that He knew would hit those vulnerable spots.]

He never did grasp the sense of humor the way the rest of us did. He was always so literal. [She'd rather not call Castiel crazy, so she addresses the elephant in the room, so to speak, herself.]

[She wants to say something. She wants to say something but she doesn't know if he can help, especially with her mask telling her she's nothing, and the way he looked at her.

So instead this plays. Maybe the music can help him. Sometimes it helps to ground her.]

What're you trying to get rid of exactly? [ A grin. ] Maybe I can help you with that.

You...realize she can't hear you, don't you?

[because those insults aren't ones that he's going to repeat to her. out of lucifer and meg there's only one person he actually likes, and he's not about to turn on her.]

I didn't mean to put it on. [the mask, of course. he's back to talking to meg again, at last.] I hadn't touched it at all until- Until now. You need to hide it.

Meg's here now. She- She'll know what to do. I just- Stop it.

[don't mind him. having lucifer throwing insults around isn't helping the situation at all.]

If you don't like it here, perhaps you should leave. [a pause, and-] No, I wouldn't. I have...friends here.

[it helps, though not for the obvious reasons. the music is enough to calm him down, but it's the fact that seraphim is the one responsible for it that quietens lucifer's voice too. even he knows when to show some respect.

it doesn't keep him from occasionally whispering in to castiel's ear while she's playing though. it's only once she's finished that he finally breaks his own silence.]

Could I...sit with you. Later?

They're not my children. Father created them. You know that.

[there's a moment of silence as he glances off to the side, before he gives an exasperated look at the non-existent archangel.]

I know he's talking to me. But if you aren't going to stop talking, how am I meant to answer?

[okay, now where was he?]

Did you- Did a mask turn up on your door too?

[The music plays through another song, and then the audio clicks off, and the text function starts]

Yes, of course you can. If you want to.

[ ...yeah. So, he's just going to frown at him for a good portion of this reply. ]

Can't really say I know what you're talking about, so I guess that would be a no. [ He pauses for a second. ] Who else are you talking to?

[once the mask is locked away and meg and dean are gone. he knows better than to expect lucifer to disappear with them. it'd taken weeks the last time, and that had only been an echo from sam. this time- well, he'll just have to wait and see.]

I'd like to. I shouldn't have reacted the way I did, and I-

[he looks almost angry as he glances off to the side. it doesn't last long though. hallucination or not, lucifer is still all too threatening a figure for him to keep it up.]

I could bring you something to eat.

...Lucifer. [and he looks nice and uncomfortable while saying it. it probably doesn't help that he's being laughed at right now.]

He isn't- Here. It's him, but it's not, and I can't make him go away.

I'm not mad, I'm just...I got mad at Him. It wasn't fair.

You can bring something. Maybe an apple? If it's not too much trouble. I don't want to be trouble.

[ Bells, for all his faults, doesn't laugh at him though. He pinches the bridge of his nose instead. ]

You're just full of surprises, aren't you? Is he in your head telling you what to do? [ SIGH. ] At some point, you're just going to have to ignore it. Or maybe, I dunno. You see somebody about this little problem of yours?

[ a prolonged, thoroughly confused sort of pause. how does one even respond to that? mumbling mostly to himself: ]

[ so, he's a little mortified by that mask. what a hideous thing. ]

[ it wasn't a secondary thought, but the other one came first - ]
