[It's quiet for a moment before Zaeed begins to speak, and his voice is as brusque as his face might suggest. No introductions from him here, and no hellos, either. Waste of time on both counts.]

Been looking at some of your records. Couldn't help noticing your list of the missing or dead.

Some of these names. [A faint tapping sound.] Kasumi Goto. Jane Shepard. Tali'Zorah vas Normandy. When did they get here, how long did they stay, and did they say anything about the world they came from?

[Goto might be a common enough name. Shepard, too, even if it's a bit of a stretch. But the quarian--that's goddamn unmistakable, and he doesn't know what to think about that.]

[ well, mention of kasumi on the network does suddenly have her attention -- she misses her after all and it's been a long time since her name was ever brought up around here. ]

I knew Kasumi. She showed up with the first wave of people and has been gone for a while now, why?

Worked with someone named Kasumi a while back. Trying to figure out if this is the same one.

She say anything about what she did before the first wave?

She did.

I think I recall her mentioning being on a ship before this one though.

[ sorry zaeed, ariadne might not be the best person to give out information on people she considered friends - until she knows you don't want to harm kasumi that is. ]

Wouldn't happen to be along the lines of casual liberation of other people's goods, would it?

[Zaeed didn't mind Kasumi all that much! Although he wouldn't ever really say it. Still, he can see why this conversation sounds kind of sketchy.]

We both got hired for the same mission. Just trying to figure out when she might have found the time to turn up here. This place makes no goddamn sense.

She didn't ask to be here like any of us did.
She had things back home she would have rather been doing then dealing with this.

[ she may not fully understand what they were, but she will still be protective of her and whatever it was - even if she wasn't here anymore. ]

Was she back home when you left?

Guess she was. Wouldn't know for sure. We all parted ways after the mission. Just recognized the name and figured I'd ask.

[ That's a good thing - Kasumi being back home and not dead - so she can't help but smile slightly at it. ]

Well, she was a good person while she was here, and helped us/me all out a great deal.

She never could resist a good cause. Appreciate the info.

Sounds like her - at least the person I got to know here.

And I'm Ariadne; it's nice to meet you, Zaeed - well given the situation that is.

I knew Shepard. She showed up... jump six, I think, if I remember her number correctly. Just disappeared this past jump. [ She thinks. ]

She told me a little bit about her world. Not much -- enough to know she knew space, was competent, that she was closer to Earth than most people in my world are and what the tech was like there.

She mention anything else? Reapers? Aliens? Her old ship?

[It's vague, but it might be her. What the hell, this makes no sense.]

The Normandy, wasn't it?

Not goddamn possible. [Not directed at her as much as it is to himself.] I just talked to her a couple hours before I turned up here. The entire goddamn galaxy would've known if Shepard went MIA.

Time doesn't work the way it should when it comes to what people were doing before they got here.

And after?

From what I've heard, it's like no time has passed when you go back. If you come back to the ship, sometimes it has either here or there, sometimes it hasn't.

Jane didn't stay long. Month or two. Gonna teach me how to fight and then took a powder.

Took a powder?

Uh-huh.

I'm sure that means something where you're from, kid, but I've got no goddamn clue.

[ Sigh. If Brendan comes across as a little annoyed, that's definitely because he is. The 'kid' comment definitely rubs him the wrong way, too. Even if he is only 17. ]

Yeah, took a powder. Ankled it on out. Left dust.
