[The camera clicks on to a low-lit room. It's difficult to see anything, but there's something moving in the darkness--
--a face. A wolf's face turned to the side, its jaws bloody and eye narrowed, teeth stretched into sharp, curved fangs. It stares at the camera for a few seconds, sizing it up, before turning. But the other half of the face isn't a wolf; rather, it's a mangled, gory mess. A young face appears on the screen, meshed horribly with the wolf on the other side-- and it's Remus' face, but one could only tell that if one knew him well, as his face is horribly torn up. Torn skin and exposed muscles make up the majority of his face, while blood pours from scratches on his forehead. His teeth are exposed through a hole in his cheek, but that's barely visible, as dripping yellow fat mixing with crimson blood are constantly slipping down his cheek. It's a horrible sight, made all the worse by Remus' sudden low laugh.
--because it's the mask, of course, and he proves that by removing it after a few seconds.]
Enjoy the show?
[There's a noticeable edge in his voice and smile, something colder and crueler than before.]
I think I quite like this new development. It's certainly far more interesting than simply another Jump, don't you agree? And far less deadly-- which reminds me, there's new people here, aren't there? I do hope that's not your first inkling that things on here aren't quite so lovely as they seem; that would be a rather poor welcome.
[He glances down, considering the mask for a few more seconds, before glancing at the camera again.]
You know, I'm always surprised at how kind everyone is here. Aren't you? How welcoming they are to the supernatural creatures. The vampires and the werewolves, the poor castaway souls that have found sanctuary here-- but you know, I don't know if that's so wise. It works out for me, of course, but don't you ever wonder what might happen if one of us snapped?
[He grins fiercely.]
Think about it. Once a month, all that separates me from a potential meal-- that is to say, you (and please don't say that you could defend yourself from me, because I can promise you, you couldn't, not from me when I'm on the hunt)-- is a simple door and a dog. Just a few inches of steel, and I'm sure soon enough the werewolf will figure out how to get out of that.
As for the vampires-- well. I don't think it would be very hard for a vampire to snap, would it? At least with me, you only have to worry once a month. A terrifying once a month, to be certain, and I could most definitely hurt you if I was so inclined now-- but in the end, I have control over myself twenty-eight days of the month. A vampire, now-- well. He could snap at any moment. His cravings are a constant hunger. Imagine, if you would, starving. Having hunger claw at your stomach, making you dizzy, making you delirious-- and then being presented a delicious meal and being told you weren't allowed to have any. Imagine having to deal with that at every hour, every minute, every second of every day--
Really, it's a wonder the poor things haven't snapped by now, isn't it?
[He slips his hand up, his finger playing carelessly at his dogtooth.]
Of course, being a creature of darkness also has its benefits. Strength, hearing, sight, smell-- they all get better. You become something better than a human, something bigger and cleverer and far more interesting. I have to say, I'm a bit surprised no one has asked for the bite yet.
But then perhaps you're all frightened.
[He shrugs and glances down at the mask again. After a moment he slips it back on and turns so the wolf side is facing the Network.]
I suppose you should be.

[ she doesn't know what to say. at all. not because she's scared, or she thinks he's dangerous, that his mind's been meddled with- but that mask. is that what it's like for him? she's seen some of the masks, even hers with all its patches and stitches - they're meant to represent some part of you. but Remus' is so brutal and harsh, and all she can think is that it's effected him in some drastic way, enough to make him say these things. she almost feels like she should be apologizing, trying to comfort him, but it's all very bizarre.
the underlining threat of this whole transmission isn't lost on her, though. that's the part that's leaving her torn for words. ]

[He touches his bloody human cheek.]
There's a reason I scream and scream.
[A beat. Thoughtfully:]
I wonder if it would affect you the way it does me, or if you would simply be able to change back.
video;
What, the transformation? I can't shift into animals, not- fully. I'm sure it would be the same if I tried shifting into a werewolf too. It wouldn't stick. If that's what you meant..?
[ cause she's not really sure and it's veryvery obvious umm ]

[ and despite herself, she's kind of grinning. ]
--If I do try it, and end up with just a tail and a snout while the rest of me sticks to my human form, you have to promise you won't laugh.
video;
Oh, I make no promises. When do you want to try it, then?
video;
And! In person. I'm not putting on a show for the whole network.
[ plus she wants to see him in person. transmissions on the network are easy to script and walk your way through - she wants to see for herself if he's okay or if something's going on ]
You choose. When will you be free?

[ it doesn't take her very long to get to Remus' room, though the trip over was telling enough. it's bizarre seeing a good number of the crew wearing masks, people being more talkative than they usually are, some slinking about like they're hiding something. it's just- well, it's different. but then, she knows all too well how easy it is to act differently - like something you're not, or a little more like the 'real' you - when you're hiding behind a mask.
now's just a matter of figuring out what Remus' mask has done to him.
knockknockknock ]

Decent trip over, I hope?

I've lived with the pain since I was six. It's hardly something I'm unused to. What is yours, that it's so boring?
action;
It's a bit like an old ragdoll. All patches and whatnot. And it's green, which clashes terribly with my flightsuit. So, obviously I should never wear it. [ she's been answering that question all day - why aren't you wearing it - so it comes easily enough. ]
But anyway. I have some shifting to do, don't I. [ which makes her brighten up a little bit. she knows it won't work, like there's no way that here on the ship where her abilities are messed with it'll work, but she's going to try just for the sake of trying. her hand is reaching to tug down the zipper on her flight suit before she even bothers to mention that oh yeah she's about to go all Nudie As Nature Intended It because shifting into a wolf would definitely tear up her suit if she didn't oops ]
action;
Er-- I don't-- would you like a towel?
action;
action;
[But as she doesn't mind, Remus glances back up at her. His eyes linger on her body a little, taking in the curves and blue skin-- but soon he meets her eyes, biting his lip.]
Merlin. Look at you.
action;
Okay. [ she shakes out her hands at her sides, tries to think this out. it's been a while since she's even thought about trying to shift into an animal of any kind, let alone a wolf. she's tried to shift into a dog before, back home, watched their movements, things like that. she's sure it's impossible to replicate one perfectly because her anatomy, her insides at least, can't shift right. but then, maybe werewolves didn't walk on all fours. maybe they weren't build just like a real wolf. it's interesting to try and think through. ] Okay, okay. [ still she crouches a little bit, unsure how her body will react to trying to shift, and then-
well, it's slow, her skin flutters like it always does when she's changing her appearance, though it's not as smooth as usual. her face shifts first - teeth shifting in her mouth, letting her canines elongate naturally while her jaw resets. her ears move up higher, get wider, dark red fur covering them ( they kind of look like german shepherd ears though, wide like that, oops ). and her body sort of flattens out, less girlish curves and something more sturdy, ribs getting wider, flatter, her spine curving a little more, finishing off with a tail that swishes a bit behind her as it finds its way out of the back of her flight suit.
it's uncomfortable though, that much is obvious once she stops trying to change herself, like she's trying to tug on a shirt that doesn't quiet fit right, trying on shoes that are too tight.
the change takes less than a minute, and even quicker than that, it all snaps back away again ]
Nnh, s'hard. [ ..and she's slurring, why? oh, fangs. but that just makes her laugh, then try and press her lips closed over her teeth. ]
action;
Don't-- wait, don't. They're pretty. I like them.
[He grins at her. There's something far more predatory in his gaze, something direct and eager, than one would normally expect from Remus. He slips his thumb up, brushing it gently against her lower lip.]
Shall we try it after a bite?
action;
depraveddeprived of intimate contact. not that his thumb on her lip is all that intimate, but it catches her off guard. something like 'ab-bub' comes out of her mouth in a little murmur before she shuts her eyes and tries again. ]A bite? [ she has no clue what he means, and not just because she's a tiny bit stunned. she doesn't know how exactly he became a werewolf, doesn't know his curiosity went further than what her natural abilities already gave her. so, no. she just thinks he's being forward, since she has fangs now. slowly, she reaches up to touch his mask, but just so she can try and shift it upwards, back off his face. she doesn't actually lift it though, just holds it so she can. permission first! ] Can you take off your mask? Just- for a second.
