Disregarding the unwise nature of presenting theory without fact- my opinion would be that the masks originate from our primary continuums, and are meant to serve a psychological function to individual passengers.

Dispose, not destroy. I have had offers from others to destroy the mask for me but I trust my instincts and my instincts tell me that destroying it is a bad, bad idea.
