voice;

[ she should probably buck up and make this a video post, she knows that. but it's easier to just talk into the microphone, not worry about her expression, just the tone of her voice. ]

For those that knew him, Charles Xavier is gone. The one that arrived in the seventh jump, um, oh-oh-seven, one-four-seven. I've been trying to get in contact with him for a little while now, over the past few weeks, but today the messages started bouncing back, saying the number doesn't exist. That means that's it, right?

[ there's too many possibilities, too many things could have happened, and none of them are any better or less terrifying than the last. she figured he was busy in the labs all this time, needed time alone after Erik left, but who knows? maybe he'd been lost. and she didn't do anything, she didn't look. not beyond the 'safe' parts of the ship. he could be dead, lost his communicator along the way. the weight of the things she doesn't know is making her chest feel tight all over again. ]

We should-

I just know, I know Charles wouldn't have gone wandering around the off-limit parts of the ship, especially by himself. He's smarter than that. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that we might need to look for a body. Not! Not that I think someone hurt him, I just- something must have happened, some kind of accident. Or- I dunno.

I have no idea where to look. Or who should even be looking, I don't want to put that responsibility on anyone, I'm not expecting anyone to or anything. I'm just trying to figure out how to handle this. [ she's starting to sound detached, nothing like her usual tone. her eyes blur. ]

If somebody could just come with me for one more look around the ship, I'd appreciate it a lot.

[And true to his word: in five minutes, on time (a rare thing, except when it really matters), there's a knock at the door. Sirius even waits with certain politeness, the only hint of his nerves in the way that he's tapping his wand against his leg.]

[He glances quickly at her face--not that he's the best at reading expressions, and hers is a weird one anyway. The blueness of her skin isn't what's weird, it's the set of her mouth and the look in her eyes--and so Sirius first clasps her on the arm, bracingly, the same way he might clasp Remus or James or Peter on the arm. Possibly inappropriate to comfort a girl that way--you're meant to do soft hugs, right?--but this is what he's best at, quick gruffness and then action.]

We'll walk around. This ship cocks everything up, it's impossible to do any really useful magic when it comes to finding people--but walking around would help, anyway.

He was one of the science-y ones, wasn't he? So we'll start there. [And he drops his arm, with a quick little smile.] Come on. You're in luck, I always have a plan.

[They set off--not quickly, necessarily, but more the pace of people with somewhere to be. Direct, even if there's nothing really to be direct about; they aren't sure that they're going to find anything. Beneath all his stubbornness and optimism, Sirius acknowledges that uncertainty. But they have to look. Better to have looked than to always wonder, which he'd say if that wasn't saying too much.

Instead, he taps his wand against the side of his leg, both a thoughtful and nervous sort of gesture.]

What did he do in the labs? I mean, it wasn't anything that could have ended badly, could it? [He thinks of those mad weird dog beasts that were all over the corridors, and pulls a little face.]

[DNA. Right. That's... well, whatever, she doesn't seem to be an expert on it, and it's not like they have to discuss DNA or science or anything.]

'Cos they might have been human once. Yeah, I remember hearing about that as well. [A little pause; he's not good at Serious Discussions, it'd be better if there were something to actually do instead of just walk to an empty lab.] He's, er. Your brother, isn't he?

[Oh, what a good topic. This is what he gets for bringing up siblings. And there are a hundred dark and scowling tangents to go on here, but Sirius forces himself away from them and instead barks an amused laugh.]

It's more 'related-but-wish-we-weren't', in my case. One brother, if you can call him that, and I very much wish someone would take him off my hands. [Which might be the wrong sort of joke to make at someone whose brother has in fact disappeared but whatever.] Was it just you two or are there more siblings-by-choice?
