The queen is here.

[It's the first voice post she's made, and there is so much emotion in her voice that it's hard to tell if she's angry, scared, or just excited.

She isn't the girl she was, outspoken and forward but innocent. That girl is gone, and the one that took her place is harder and fiercer.]

[ So very carefully: ] What manner of request?

A girl has tarried long enough. [And she sounds almost as vicious as the wolf she pretends isn't here.]

A girl's hair grows. She needs her head shaved smooth again.

[ It probably says something, that Alayne is the only one she trusts to hold a knife against her skin. But she isn't thinking about that ]

[ She sounds a bit mortified, though it is as much a response to what the girl intends to do than simply a request to have her head shaved. ]

Why— why is that important?

It just is. [ A girl is losing her control, and it's a struggle to reach for it again, especially now. ]

A girl - a girl doesn't want fleas. [ Mummers shaved their heads to make wearing their wigs easier. She had wigs to wear, now. But she did not want to share that, not yet. ]

[ There is the girl that Alayne remembers. The one who disliked Sansa and thought her stupid, who Sansa thought was willful and bullish in turns. She does not know which girl she likes better. This one or the one with no name, calm and deliberate.

Alayne, in turn, also looses some of her patience. Her response is not smooth and elegant, but terse, almost snappish. ]

And what will you give me in return? [ A secret, a story, a life upon the edge of a blade? Promise you will not kill the queen, but no. Alayne knows such a request is impossible. ]

[ It's familiar, a whisper from memories; they speak with the voices of girls who disliked each other, not allies. But she is caught up, trapped, and she cannot break free of the girl she was, not yet. ]

What does a woman want?

You don't believe me? [ It comes out hot, frustrated. Her face is slipping. ]

You cannot kill the queen, [ she says. Not should not, but cannot. The distinction is important in Alayne's mind, though she's certain Arya will not mark it. ]

There is every reason to believe you lie to me.

But not on this matter.

[ MURDER so far, but she has the seeds of another plan. If she can have patience. ]

To speak to the King in the North on how he thinks the woman who murdered our father ought to be handled.

[It will be a family matter.]

[ It was always a family matter, but it became something else along the way. And now that she has a family matter up against the fact that she cannot have her family, she's torn. ]

I'll listen. [ But she may not obey. ]

She will argue it was not her hand that dealt the blow. She will claim he confessed to the crimes that earned him the King's Justice.

[ Arya. Again, she almost says it. But no, that is the greatest betrayal and Alayne remembers holds fast to the thought that they may still be friends. At first there is nothing but a sharp exhale and then: ] Please. Friend. Do not do this.

Tell me the happenings of that day.

We appreciate that.

[ Friend. Ally. A girl and a woman. She lets out a breath, a frustrated one, and doesn't draw in another for long moments. She is a girl. She is not Arya Stark, Arya Stark is dead, and the queen would not know her anyway. She must be no one. ]

Will a woman shear a girl's head? [ Calm as still water again, or as close to it as she can manage. ]
