[ Data appears on screen. As before, to those who have never seen him (for the most part those who don't frequent the science department or sickbay), Data is almost indiscernible from being human at first glance, but the second impression is further from it. There are slight mannerisms he can't get quite right, his head is rigid, his attention fixed, his hair too perfect, and though there are imperfections to his skin, it's noticeably tinted gold, like his eyes. ]

With the decline of our medical staff, it is imperative that efforts be made to create a baseline model of all individual life forms on board. Such precautions may help to stymy another outbreak of stasis sickness, or counteract an otherwise similar ailment in the future.

Doctor McCoy employed me to build him secure quarters in which to safely contain not only this information, but medical histories and samples from the Tranquility's passengers. This construction is now complete, meaning that willing patients may now place their complete trust in doctor/patient confidentiality.

[ There is a brief delay. Spot, his ginger cat, jumps up onto the counter, but is quickly shooed down out of the way, and Data resumes his speech. ]

I would like to suggest that any of those on board with rare or unique physiology report to either Xenobiology in the Science Department, or Medbay itself in regard to collecting samples, cataloging DNA and performing scans of your skeletal and biological structures. All information gathered shall make treating you easier in case of illness or injury, and may indeed save your life.

The new computer and storage can only be accessed by interaction with the nanomachines installed in the forearms of the ship's medical staff. Access is automatic. The override consists of one hundred ninety two random individual symbols and digits changing biweekly, assuring the computer cannot be disturbed. The code is known only to myself, but on the account of my death will be automatically forwarded to most senior member of medical staff on board.

OOC: Hope none of this treads on any toes. Players can assume their characters have had or deliberately haven't had these tests done, or take it and run for your own purposes. What about those of us who are normal humans?

Doctors on board are generally well versed in basic human physiology. However a single blood sample would provide useful reference, or a resource from which your blood can be replicated in order to facilitate a transfusion, if necessary.

In other words, you think I should check in with one of the medical staff just in case. They probably already have a sample from the time I was sick with that virus.

Can you replicate any kind of blood for transfusion, or just human blood?

Replication is slow at present, and wholly dependent on Mr. Scott's progress with the transporter, as an offshoot of the technology used to rematerialise matter would be sufficient to serve such a purpose. On the Enterprise, we could replicate the blood of a number of species with a single command.

If you clear with Dr. Watson, I'll consent. Ask him and we'll see.

I have a previous understanding with Doctor McCoy about my blood. However, I may be willing to provide a sample under the condition that it is merely kept securely and never studied unless I or one I give authority to gives permission.

Your files and samples may be secured to an individual Doctor. It may in fact be possible to destroy the sample should it no longer be required.

If I may ask, what is the nature of your concern regarding your blood?

The last sample I gave was destroyed after its use. The blood of my kind can be used for purposes that are not advisable, but often tempting. Because of this, our blood is considered sacred and never given lightly.

Do people often allow the doctors of this realm to poke and prod at them so?

Frequently, yes. Many debilitating afflictions, if diagnosed early, can be cured of prevented in the early stages where they would be mortal if left too long. As a result, check-ups are regularly scheduled.

I understand but the bloodletting still seems to me to be barbaric.

Thanks for setting all this up. I've been thinking it would be good to check in with Medical, because my people are almost indistinguishable from humans at first glance but our blood is incompatible with theirs.

I was thinking maybe we should set up some system for having a supply of blood on hand in case of injury, for my sister and myself. But I have to admit, I was a little worried about security and access, there. I hope this isn't rude, but I have to ask - do you have any standards for determining lack of personal or political bias when accepting Med staff?

Refrigerated units for storing such supplies are available, and a small supply would be advisable, particularly for those in dangerous positions; security, engineering, gunnery. It is, however, completely voluntary, and I would suggest discussing it with your choice of the doctors on board.

[ A brief pause. ]

Medical staff is chosen on a basis of proficiency, however there is the option of making your records uniquely accessible to the staff of your choice. Given the present circumstances-- [ Another pause as he thinks of the correct colloquialism ] --we cannot simply 'pick and choose'.

I can't say I've had much contact with any of the doctors here, which is part of why I asked. I don't have any reason to distrust them personally, it's just, well. Would you mind if I explained the situation a little more, so maybe you could advise me?

Why should we trust you with that sort of information?

I cannot force you to trust me, and in actual fact the system is designed so that the information can be released to only members of the medbay staff with which you are comfortable. However, I am incapable of deceit or bias. I am not programmed for it.
