( when the video of peter pops on, he nearly drops the device. there's a very good chance that he would have done so if it were not resting on the bed. this is a moment that every donor dreams of. a moment that he never thought he'd experience in his lifetime, not when so many people go without even seeing a glimpse of their original. they don't choose famous people, people on the television or those whose names you might know. ruth was right. they choose junkies and convicts to model them after. that's the kind of people they come from.

the idea didn't hurt tommy as much as it had ruth. but at the moment, tommy swallows despite his dry throat, wondering what he's meant to say here. they never taught him this at hailsham. they never mentioned this scenario unfolding at all. )
