However, provided new insight on the present circumstances and in light of the second casualty to take place, I believe a formal debriefing and subsequent discussion is in order.

[Charles was deep into his work when his device pinged. It was a surprise to see the message and who it was from but certainly a pleasant surprise. Setting aside his notes for the moment, Charles picked up the device to respond.

It takes him a bit of time, texting was still not his natural form of communication.]

Spock! It is good to hear from you, my friend. What may I assist you with?

[ he has begun to believe that anything with charles is simply a matter of time. he appears to have nearly endless patience, and a curiosity that matches his own. when the reply comes, he does not bother with an upward glance. ]

[Though Charles was often very intent on looking his conversation partner in the eye when he spoke, he did not push this habit on Spock.

If for no other reason than the man's question segued rather neatly into one of the matters Charles had been making notes on.]

Curious that you should ask me such a question, Spock. Setting aside your own attempt and my response to it, I will say that to this moment I have not.

However, there is something I mean to do come the next jump that could be considered ... similar.

[the relief that floods him is huge and immediate when this network post goes up, quickly followed by indignation that Bones didn't contact him the way he said he would when he'd threatened Jim with a sedative if he contacted medical one more time.

though it's likely that Spock's waking and this post had happened within moments of each other and that was the reason, and Jim lets it slide because he has more pressing matters]

What happened?

[ to the doctor's defense, Jim's assessment is correct. no sooner had he awakened, deliberately ordered his thoughts, and cataloged his surroundings- than here he was. attempting to return to work with as little delay as possible. ]

I received a number of very distinct impressions.

The force behind it, while unable or unwilling to communicate, was [ a beat ] significant enough to place strain upon my consciousness. I entered a comatose state to contain and repair subsequent damage.

[it's a pretty vague explanation, but Jim understands the need for caution. especially on a ship that, apparently, punishes you for information]

I am adequately recovered. However, it is my understanding that medical professionals tend to prefer exhaustive measures to keep one's patients confined to bed rest.

If you would be willing to try it, I believe I have successfully callibrated a beverage similar to Vulcan spice tea which may aid you in your recovery, Commander.

[ this is the message that perhaps, catches him most off guard. Spock's head does not cant- but he does hesitate momentarily before he replies. ]
