Nice welcome wagon.

[The sarcasm is probably entirely irritating to the veterans of the ship, but she really couldn't care less. The jump was completely shitty.]

So now that I'm all 'settled in' and shit, I have a question that goes out to the whole ship:

Anyone from after 2300 AD? Anyone? I'm giving it a pretty wide berth here, figured getting specific wouldn't get me very far so don't hesitate to say hi.

[There's a beat where Cora pokes at her newest tattoo to her collection. Not quite her style.]

Gotta say if I'm stuck with these antiques it's gonna be just like they're brand spanking new.

[She looks as if she's about to stuff off the video when something off screen catches her eye.]

Anyone got some tools to reconfigure frequencies on comm devices? Mine is busted and my tool bag is seriously lacking about five pounds.

[She holds up a little metal wristband - at least it looks like that.]

Okay. If that is who it sounds like, that's both really good and really bad.

Good because it's Cora. She isn't here alone. Someone who can protect her is here.

Bad because it's Cora. Which mean she's been taken, too.

Carefully, Len connects to the communication network.]

It's just a test. If you've got a spectrum analyzer I can patch it into my comms unit - even though I'm thinking it's pretty much trash now - if I can any similar frequencies that might be compatible with the one it's preset to then... I dunno.

Shit, man I'm just happy there's air.

Cora. Why?

Len! What the hell are you doing here? I mean -- how'd these lunatics find you?

Wish I knew. I... don't even remember Confidante getting attacked.

Which someone said there wouldn't have been an attack, but I don't know how I'd be here otherwise. Especially with you here, too. And...

She's not too worried about privacy filters right now. Because she's made no secret of where she can be found. But no harm in upping it a little.]

Ja, ja, positive thoughts. That's the spirit. [ There may be a bit of a mocking tone in there, but really, that's just how Axel speaks all the time, like he's having a laugh with everyone (including himself). ]

[With a brief but bright grin Cora ends the feed.

A few minutes later there is a ~~rapping, tapping~~ knock at Len's chamber door.]

I'd rather meet in a less private area, if it's all the same.

Nowhere - everywhere.

Yeah; trying not to pay attention to the sudden pain in my back.

[lol another joke. She's so bad at these.]

Of course, madam. Would the 8th deck commons area be acceptable?

[Len waits, very still and very quiet, even after the first knock.

At the second, she creeps over to the door and opens it a crack. The familiar girl outside merits the door getting thrown open.

And she moves to quickly hug Cora. "Cling to" might be an apt description, as well.]

[There's a slight scoff at his manners. But she agrees.]

Sure thing.

[Cora is a lot smaller than her attitude might let on. She barely teeters above five feet and is wiry to boot, but there's a meanness in her face that suggests she's managed to get by without height or superior strength.]

[Her hug is tight and Cora buries her face in the crook of Len's neck for a moment, just happy that she's in one piece and safe.]

M'so glad you're alright.

[It's muffled, but she said it at least. Her hand comes up to brush against the ends of Len's hair at the back of her neck, a comforting gesture she picked up when they were alone and things were quiet.]

'M glad you're here. I mean... kinda not, but... whatever.

[Because she doesn't feel like rambling right now. Just holding on to Cora, fingers tightening their grip on the fabric she has a hold of, burying her face in Cora's shoulder.

She's not totally convinced this isn't a slaver ship, still, but... But if Cora's here, then she's safe.]

Sudden pain in your back?

[ Dryly. ]

I know what you mean.

[And she does. This is one of the less awesome things that have happened to them since meeting one another. Including "the talk" Doctor Hsai decided to have with them. Never getting over that. Never.]

Inside. C'mon. [Really she just wants to have an excuse to not act like the tougher one for a few minutes. Hers was an easily bruised ego and Len was nice enough to pretend Cora didn't enjoy cuddling while they were in public.]

[Len smiles just a little. Because, well. At least she has Cora here with her. Better than being here alone. Or Cora being here alone.

So she walks into the room, tugging the other girl into the space. She closes the door and locks it.

Better safe than sorry.]

[The instant the door is closed Cora sort of collapses in on herself, sitting on the edge of Len's bed. She's been holding herself up on willpower and pure anger since she woke up and with Len she can just go ahead and...unravel for a bit.

She still plays it strong, somehow. Like she's just exhausted and not scared because if Cora is scared then Len doesn't have her for a pillar. Cora being protective of the hacker usually worked to their advantage but not if it was protecting her from the reality of the situation.]

We'll go home, okay?

Cap'n'll come.

[She mutters it as she sits down beside Cora, shifting to curl up to her, settling her head on the other girl's shoulder.]

Yeah I know.

[It's such a lie, she can barely stomach saying it so calmly. But lying to Len to make her feel better was not a strange thing. Though who was she lying to this time: herself or Len? Cora wasn't even sure but saying it was better than remaining silent.]

They're not gonna let us live this down for months, you know.

[An arm wraps around Len's shoulders and squeezes her. Hopefully in a way that's reassuring.]

[The little redhead burrows closer, nuzzling the other girl's neck.]

As much their fault as ours. Happened on their watch.

[She knows their captain will come if it's at all possible. She's just not sure it's actually possible.]
