[Jesse appears neither excited nor distressed. He actually looks mostly tired, which maybe is to be expected from a new arrival. He's slumped over on his new bed with his chin resting in his hand, mumbling around his fingers:]

[Is he bored or something? He acts as if this is routine.]

First thing: if there's any monsters and aliens and shit I gotta be looking out for, gimme a heads-up.

Second: anybody wanna grab some food? Is there food or is it all freeze-dried bullshit? I had freeze-dried ice cream once and it was totally lame, so like, please tell me they got burgers up in here. Funyuns? Something?

First: I will draft laws with the cooperation and help of others knowledgeable on this subject. Second: I will put them up for vote. Third: I will make any necessary changes mandated by the vote. Fourth: I will help to enforce these laws.

No, okay, this is not mocking, yo. This is genuine surprise right here. I totally thought you were the kissing-ass-and-taking-orders type.

I take orders from those who are worthy of loyalty - my superiors at work, public officials. Someone like that? Doesn't deserve obedience from a dog.

Because he could not bother to leave the bridge. Who knows why that was? Cowardice, laziness, or apathy - one of the three.

Then perhaps he might say that. "Regrettably, I've been chained to my chair." Not just keep indifferently silent.

You're offering him quite a lot of excuses for someone who dislikes sycophants.
