[And the feed opens up to the sound of a sort of annoyed teenage boy.]

Right. I keep forgetting I have this thing. Kind of like a cell phone. Kinda. Anyways, I got all the basic crap explained and everything. Everyone got pulled on this spaceship. No way home. Creepy stuff happens, don't wander the halls alone. All that.

But the thing nobody's really explained to me is why people seem to be from like...the future. Or the past. Or people who should be dead are alive here. And I see some crazy stuff happen at home, but this is still a little weird. You'd think if we were all being pulled from the same world or whatever there'd at least be some consistency.

But let me guess, no one has any answers to that anymore then they do the rest of it. Not surprising, somehow.

[And the feed cuts.]

It's probably to distract us. What better way to occupy our time than to have us spending it figuring out who knows what, who doesn't need to know what, and why this is happening to us. Gives whoever is in charge plenty of time to attack or do whatever it is that kidnappers do on spaceships.

[ she's quiet for a moment. ] I don't like it, either.

You're probably right. I guess it's working, the distracting bit.

[He pauses for a moment, awkward, and then switches the feed to something private.]

Uncle Mason's here.

What?

[ oh, mason. he's probably not happy about this happy meal invasion of vampires. and his death is still pretty recent for tyler, so caroline's all shades of worried. ]

Are you - Does he know he's ... [ this is a big fat mess, and so is caroline's grip on sentences. deep breath in. ] - Are you okay?

No. I mean, I couldn't ask him....that. [He had thought about it, but how he's supposed to say that? What if he doesn't know?]

I told him about me though. That I triggered the curse. Figured I should, if he's found a way to deal with it here. [He's skirting around her other question, it's easier that way.]

[ she notices, mr lockwood, but it's been so long since she's had to deal with one of his transformations that she really, really, really hopes that mason has found a way to stop them. she can't bear the thought of tyler going through all that pain all over again. ] Has he?

Apparently it's a work in progress. He's still getting used to how different the cycles are here with the jumps. [He's not going to mention the person Mason apparently attacked, it's not his confession to make.]

[ oh ...

all optimism deflates for one second before caroline tries to undo that motion. her face falls. that means tyler's still going to turn and not by choice, either. she hates this. she really, really hates it. everything that happens to him is not his choice; becoming a werewolf, when he's to turn, klaus turning him into a hybrid, doing klaus' errands, biting her. she hates that tyler can't even escape from it on a frekaing spaceship. ]

But he must be close to figuring it out. [ she's going to put so much faith into mason lockwood right now. ] At least he's here to help you out with it.

There has to be a way to figure it out and maybe even stop it.

He at least has a place set up with chains and stuff, so there's that.

[He'll have to ask Mason to show it to him. It's strange, getting that chance now. He remembers frantically calling Mason's number when he first triggered the curse, desperate for help or guidance. How abandoned he felt. How alone. Of course, now he knows what really happened, but still, it's hard to forget those feelings.

But Mason's here to help him now. That's something, right?]

Yeah, maybe. [He's not going to get his hope up about any kind of cure or fix, not after where that kind of hope got him last time.]

[ optimism, tyler! ]

At least you'll be protected. And he can help you better than I ever could.

[ werewolf bite be damned, and despite what she says, caroline's going to fall back into that role of helping tyler out if he needs it. he needs a shoulder to lean on? he's got hers. he needs someone to vent to about how shitty it is to change on a ship? she's all ears. he wants someone to sit with him while he waits for the moon? she's there. she doesn't want to intrude on what she believes is going to be a lockwood thing, but she's not going to leave him because he's got someone else. she's not going to let the boy who broke his bones for her go through this alone. not if she can help it. ]

I know your uncle probably doesn't like me, but I'm here for you. And him. Just like before, and just like I plan on being, anyway.

I wouldn't go that far, Caroline.

[He's not sure even his Uncle could have given him the support she had. Held him after his transformation. Comforted him. Risked her life for him. Yeah, he's grateful Mason'll be here to help with things now, but that doesn't change how much Caroline's already done for him or what that means to him.]

You don't have to do that, not now. We'll be fine.

What I think - and I could be completely off about this - is that whatever kidnapped us managed to grab people from the moment right before they died. [ He pauses for a moment and then adds, in a more amused tone than he probably should, ] Either that or we're all zombies. Considering I don't feel the need to chow down on some brains, though, I think it's safe to rule that option out.

Where's the fun in giving away all the secrets? [ Said with a derisive sort of snort that shows how much he thinks of this whole business. ] I'm from 1962.

One of the alien guys said it was something about like- universe grab-bags or something. Like, the Tranquility goes into warp or whatever, and when they tear space-time a whole bunch of us get dropped in from a bajillion other alternate universes.

I guess that makes sense. It's just...weird, I guess. Everyone being grabbed from different times and all. [Not just Mason being alive, but Caroline being from like a year later too. It's an adjustment.]

I doubt that whoever runs this ship would even know what consistency meant. Everyone else from my world is from the future, it's .... yeah, weird.

Is any of this actually supposed to be fun? [Because Tyler doesn't really think so.] Seriously?

I guess...that makes sense as much as any of it does. Still, you'd think at least people from the same universe would be from the same time. Or something. Maybe consistency is too much to ask for.

Yeah. Some people are from the future for me, and some of the past, and it's just all really friggin' weird.

My guess? Magic.

[She's not even being sarcastic]

[ a shrug ]

I dunno, maybe not if like, they were brought here at different times and stuff.

But the whole making sense thing kinda goes right out the window with the you just showed up on a freaky deaky spaceship in a parallel dimension so.

Actually, that would be sarcasm. But yeah, sure, having the time of my life. [ There's a shrug in his voice ] Seriously.

Weird. And here I thought someone being from a year ahead of me was weird. Guess I have some stuff to get used to.
