I was told to get ahold of either of you about helping out at the Medbay? Heard you guys are kind of understaffed. I know I don't exactly have my credentials with me, which I guess shouldn't be that much of a surprise, but i'd like to help out if I can.

So far as credentials go, we're actually going to be looking into training some people, I expect. May I ask what sort of experience you've got?

I hoped so. [ Okay no, it's not a secret, it just took awhile before he heard either of your names. ]

I've got both a nursing and paramedic license back home. I was a nurse longer than i've been a paramedic, but extenuating circumstances sort of got in the way.

[ See, you could have just come to the Medbay, Peter, and you'd see one or both of them there, looking overworked. Stop being so shy.

Short staff aside, is there any other reason why you've stepped forward?

[ S-sob, he'll remember that for next time. And he's less shy then he seems like, it's just... paranoia. In general. ]

Because I want to help out? I'm not exactly used to not being able to do anything. It's why I did my paramedic training -- I worked in hospice for awhile. Just made me want to be able to help people sooner.

[ It's not meant to be an instigating question, of course. John just wants a better look at the sincerity of the interest. ]

Well, we certainly could do with more people here. If you're willing to put in the time, we can get you familiarized with the equipment here and put you into a shift.

[ Pfff, he'd have to try a little harder to make Peter feel like he was being interrogated. He's had more terrifying interviews. If anything Peter sounds kind of excited by the prospects. He really wants to help. Really really. ]

Believe me, i'd be more than happy to put in the time. [ a beat ] And i'm Peter.

[ Dryly. He agrees. Even though being one of the only medstaff wears him out, he'd rather do it than nothing at all. ]

Peter... Petrelli?

[ As in the one Nathan Petrelli publicly shamed? ]

The one and only. Guess my reputation proceeds me, though i'm pretty sure it's Nathan's reputation, not mine.

[ God, his reputation here's almost as awesome as it was back home. Nathan Petrelli's crazy little brother, at least this time there wasn't any newspapers to put it in. ]

And here I thought up in space, being a Petrelli wouldn't actually matter for once. [ He just snorts. Damn you, Nathan. ]

Believe it or not, though, I'm aware that there's two sides to every story. I'm also a bit familiar with the annoyance of well-meant siblings.

[ He lowers his hand, but there's a pause as he stares at the younger man. ]

You don't have to tell me anything about it. It's your business. All I need to know is if there's going to be any issue with it in our medbay.

Issue with what he was talking about?

[ Peter just shakes his head. ] There isn't even an issue from my side of it. Not the kind he was talking about, at least.

It was a lapse of judgement on my part when I was trying to understand my ability. This is the second time Nathan's used it to undermine me while trying to get people to listen to him. [ sigh. ]

So no, there won't be any issue with it. Any of it. I'm mentally... sound if that's all you need to hear.

[ John is listening carefully, and nodding. ]

All I care about is whose hands I'm putting our patients in. This is all on me, you understand. I believe you.

[ Rather, he's willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Peter seems honest to him, where Nathan seemed more of a ruthless politician. ]

That said, when can you come down to have a tour?

Believe me, I get it. Everything he was talking about happened almost a year ago; gave a public statement at one of his political parties, saying the same thing. They actually wrote about it in the papers, but i've still been working ever since back home.

Even with actual background checks.

[ He just offers up an apologetic smile because Peter's really beyond tired of having Nathan be a pain in his ass, but he's trying to take it well. ]

Better question to ask is when am I not available. Say the word and i'll be on the next lift.
