This is William Adama. Most of you I've probably already spoken with about this, but there are always new arrivals and it's possible I've missed someone. Any adult interested in participating in watch rotation should get in contact with me. I prefer to discuss the actual details face to face, but this gives better coverage.

Over 15. Younger than I'd like, but these are strange circumstances.

Do you have combat experience? It's fine if you don't, but I like to balance the shifts for it.

Then it's better that we direct that somewhere useful.

A lot of us seem to come from places where that's the only option left

You mean pointing the dangerous people on your side at the other dangerous people and hoping you survive the fallout?

Yes. Tranquility seems to select for places that aren't, well, tranquil.

Perhaps it wanted people it knew would survive it.

That might be the most benevolent thing anyone has ever suggested about that ship

Benevolent isn't how I would think of it.

Whatever it wanted us for, we hardly could do it if we weren't going to survive long enough.

It was pragmatic.

It would explain the sort of worlds the younger ones tend to come from in particular. It probably did see us as tools.

There are children here as young as six. From places that don't allow for much in terms of childhood.

Maybe it just doesn't consider age a factor in survival.

There are a few other small ones. Not many, fortunately. But they all seem to be used to surviving.

Maybe the ship knew that the older people would take care of them.

You'd be surprised how even some of the most horrible people will watch out for children.

We've crossed a lot of lines in the Fleet. But if there comes a time we stop taking care of our children, humanity doesn't deserve to survive.

I was thinking more just the type of people most likely to be brought here.

What's the Fleet?

Where I come from. A collection of mostly civilian vessels that survived the destruction of the twelve human colonies.

Space. Nothing like Tranquility though.

It's always so strange to me that there are far more people here from space than there are from say, oceans.

Might be something else that force was selecting for

Maybe. But it's hardly consistent. Where I was from couldn't have been more opposite.
