[ The first thing that can be seen when the feed clicks on is a shitload of green. Then Mason shifts the comm so it's focused on him. ] So, this oxygen garden. How's it work? Is there someone that takes care of it and decides who gets to plant what, or is it more a community free for all? [ He needs to try to plant some Wolfsbane because when it runs out, life is going to suck. Not only for him but for everyone on board. ] And if someone's in charge of it, could somebody tell me how to get a hold of them?

[Well, hello gorgeous. What was it with this ship and the attractive men? Bela wasn't going to complain.]

Afraid I can't help you with that. Not exactly green fingered. But I'm assuming that it's probably for everyone to use and tend to?

I don't know who's in charge, but there are some people here whose job is to help tend the garden.

[Asato isn't part of the agriculture team, but he still spends plenty of time in the gardens himself, and he's been tending to a few stones from kuim nuts that he planted. If it turns out to be an issue, he'll get rid of them.]

Although, if there's a little room, and you want to plant something, maybe you could.

[As it happens, Lupin is there as well, scoping out the plants as nonchalantly as possible. Wolfsbane potion is nearly impossible to make anyway, let alone in a place where he can't find all the ingredients. It's worrying, but no sense in panicking, not yet. He has three weeks; surely he can come up with an alternative before then.

His head snaps up when he hears someone speaking, and, curiously, he makes his way over to them. He gives Mason a small smile.]

Hello. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to overhear, but-- have you gotten any answers? I'm rather interested in the answer myself.

That's kinda what I'm hoping. [ He's not very green-thumbed, either, but he'll figure something out. He has to. ] It'd be really nice if someone posted something up about it. [ He chuckles a little. ] Of course, I guess they could've and I just didn't see it anywhere.

Yeah? [ He's not so sure he wants to leave the care to someone else because then he might have to explain what it is he's planting, but -- ] Any chance you know who I can talk to as far as tending it goes?

[ Mason glances over, eyes the guy for a moment - curiously, of course - and then shakes his head as he puts his comm away. ]

Nothing concrete so far. It's mostly "if you want to plant something, go for it" but there's apparently some people that keep an eye on this place.

[ Which makes sense considering all the vegetation here. ]

I'm not sure. I'm sorry. I think you could ask Ward or Resnik. They have been here a long time.

[He's quiet for a moment, as if considering the options.]

Do you need the garden for something?

Hey, don't even worry about it. This place is kinda filled with more questions than answers, so it's not like another one's gonna kill me. [ He makes note of those two, though. ]

Just wanting to plant something. I wasn't really much of a garden type of guy back home but figured since I have the time...

Then perhaps they have a list of what plants grow here. What are you looking for? I'm a bit familiar with herb types, that sort of thing.

There's a lot of space in the garden. You can try to plant something if you want.

Maybe if it's poisonous or dangerous to the others, it's not such a good idea. They shouldn't get upset if it's not.

[ Hello, Mason. This is Capa. He gives his chin a scrub with his hand, his expression only vaguely perplexed before resolving itself to something more certain. ]

I don't mean to be obvious, but the oxygen garden is there— to produce oxygen. Which means it's required to maintain a certain amount of yield in order to main appropriate levels for the passengers and crew. Some plants are better at this than others, and a free for all would— [ A beat. ] —possibly— compromise that. Granted, the current passenger manifest is almost negligible compared to the maximum capacity of the ship. [ Another beat; another rub of his chin. ]

But our previous botanist was ported. She was in charge of management and maintenance. To ensure oxygen stores were at acceptable levels, that the eco-system was balanced. Whether there's been a replacement— [ I can't remember. ] —I don't know. But certain plants are agressive. Can compromise the soil, overrun necessary vegetation.

Not to overstate or sound dramatic— [ And he doesn't, Capa remains frank and matter-of-fact. ] —but one wrong plant can destroy an entire garden. The ecology's specific.

Did you have something in particular in mind?

Isn't there a way you can look through the old announcements via the network? Like the archived ones? I'm sure someone may have mentioned the garden and they know what to do with it.

[She smiles.] I'm Bela by the way. We haven't met before.

[ Fumbling as she fiddles with her device, as unpracticed as she is with it. ]

[ Even though Mason can sense what this guy is - the werewolf portion of him, anyhow - he's not entirely sure he can trust him. (Not that Mason trusts anyone, of course, but there has to be a certain level of thinking he can trust someone before he spills the beans about what's going on.) So he goes with a less obvious name for the plant, one that some werewolves might not even know. ]

Aconitum Vulperia. It was a little hard to find back home, though, so I wouldn't be too surprised if this place didn't have any.

[ And there lies the issue; he knows for a fact that it's definitely dangerous for werewolves and he's pretty sure he remembers reading something about it being used in general poisons, too. Which is why he'd really prefer to plant and tend to it himself in an area that most people won't see it. ]

Do people have a habit of planting poisonous stuff here?

Just an herb from back home. It was kinda hard to find in most places, so I doubt it would end up taking over the entire garden; I just thought that maybe, since this whole place is a guessing game, that it might be worth it to try to grow it here. See if I can get it to survive a little better.

If you or anyone else is that worried about overloading the garden, though, I won't plant it. It's not like I'll die without it. [ He smiles, like it's not a big deal even though he really is worried about what'll happen if it he runs out of the stuff. He may not die but it would definitely increase the risk for others on the ship. ]

Yeah, but I figured asking the network would be easier. Not to mention a way to meet some of the gorgeous passengers I haven't talked to yet. [ He smirks. ]

Mason. Have you been here long, Bela?

Either that or they pumped some kind of hallucinogen into the air system. Which wouldn't surprise me, honestly.

That information would be a little more useful if I had a smoking habit. But thanks anyway.

[ Alayne clears her throat politely. She's unfamiliar with many of the words people say on the ship. ]

A 'ha-lu-cinogen'? [ She sounds the word out carefully, mindful not to sound foolish. ] You will forgive me, I do not know the word.

Seriously? [ It's curiosity, not judgement, that colors his tone. ] Okay, well, you know what hallucinations are? When you see something that's not really there? Hallucinogens are things that can cause them; outside influences instead of just your brain going haywire. Usually it's a drug of some kind.

[ Capa is quick to shake his head. He doesn't want to prevent people from planting, just doing his job as a member of the crew to see that the lay-passengers are aware of the situation. ] A controlled environment like the oxygen garden might be exactly the place to help propagate it. [ A beat. ] Which could be a good thing.

Unfortunately, botany isn't my specialty. So I can't really tell you either way. [ He pauses, considering; taking the time to weigh out the options. ] But I'm sure, if we take certain precautions— couldn't hurt to try.

So— [ Alayne goes quiet as she thinks; her words tiptoe, careful to find their meaning. ] —it is something given, to sup or to drink. Like sweetsleep or Milk of the poppy. Only instead of rest, it provides waking dreams.

No one's going to chew you out for wanting to add to it. You got seeds or whatever brought with you?
