[There's a few seconds of muffled silence before Norman speaks, addressing anyone and everyone who's willing to get involved in the idea that's been mulling around in his head.]

Hello, this is Age-

[No, not agent anymore. Damn that's hard to get used to.]

This is Nahman Jayden. I've been on the security team for a while now, and it's got me thinking we need a way to identify people other than the numbers written on our arms. A better way to organize things. With that said, I'll be conducting fingerprint and DNA scans of anyone who's willing to submit.

[He pauses, realizing people might not see what he's getting at with this whole idea.]

That way, if somebody goes missing or some kind of unexpected tragedy happens [ which is, let's face it, very likely] it'll be a lot easier to locate them and figure things out. Basically what I'm hoping for is to better ensure the safety of all the people who have to live on this ship, during their time here.

[With his point made, he really has nothing else to say.]

[That sounds like something they'd do back home, and it's oddly comforting in a way. Even though she's a little confused about her life as it stands back in her own world.]

I'd be willing to do it. Seems like kinda a good idea, as long as it doesn't get outta hand or whatever.

[His voice is soft, low, rather young, somewhat British, and just now, the tenor of the question is purely conversational curiosity.]

[Trying to figure out what the sound is, it takes him a moment to respond.]

Thank you, miss, that'd be very helpful. And don't worry, it won't get out of hand. The information will be uploaded into the ARI system and there's no way it could possibly get out to anyone who shouldn't see it.

[He hopes he's being reassuring instead of cryptic.]

[Norman didn't expect anyone to catch that little faux pas.]

FBI. I was a profiler, or, behavioral analyst I suppose.

[This guy seems interested, probably a lawman himself, he'd guess.]

[Sorry Norman, she's not ever not going to be eating lemons.]

How're we gonna do this, exactly? Like, are you going to figure out a system where people line up, or do we make appointments, or...?

[There's a creak as she rolls over on her bed.]

And that sounds like a good idea. When the wrong people get a hold on stuff, that's when shit hits the fan. And you seem like a trustworthy guy, Nahman.

[Nahman? This again?]

Well it'd only take a few seconds, so realistically a person could just take the time when they're passing me in the hall.

[It really is that simple. Thank god for advanced technology. Advanced, to a degree, that is.]

[Sorry Norman that's how you say it so...]

Well okay. Guess that makes sense. But don't you think it might get a little... clusterfucky?

[And L is so noncommittal about the putative interestingness of it... except that he continues along the same lines.]

How does someone get into that line of work?

Not at all.

[Not when he's this used to the system.]

If someone is in the system, all I have to do is scan a fingerprint or piece of DNA and it'll bring up their name.

[It's so much easier than people think.]

Or I can call it up manually from within the system.

Naww, I mean... you know... if everybody's always coming up to you in the hall like paparazzi at a celebrity, don't you think gathering their information could get sort of it.

[A pause while she bites on a lemon for dramatic effect.]

[Not the topic he was expecting to come up when he made the announcement.]

Well first there's college, and then if you're accepted into the bureau there's a hell of a lot of training before you can actually do anything useful.

[Not a very interesting story but it doesn't seem like this guy is asking about this to be entertained.]

[He nods though she can't see him.]

That's true, but I don't expect a lot of people to be interested. Most people just seem to want to be left to their own business.

[He'd be surprised if even half the people on the ship took part.]

[As someone who's basically always convinced that the best possible outcome will always be what happens, Clint raises an unseen eyebrow at that line of thinking.]

Why not? I mean, it's not like it's hard or anything. And it could help a lot around here.

Well, a lot of people don't want to bother with small surveys either.

[He brings up, trying to validate his pessimism.]

Hm. Yes, I've heard it's difficult to become a field agent.

I've always been interested in working for law enforcement, but it's hard to say whether or not we'll ever get out of here and be able to go on with our lives.

[That much, at least, is true. And "our lives"... their real lives aren't here at all, are they? The prospect that they might be is still depressing.]

I'm sorry [(He's not)], but your accent... is that Boston...?

[It's hard to place.]

[Norman nods, forgetting momentarily that L can't see him.]

Yes, it is.

[This guy asks questions most people wouldn't bother to. It's kind of nice. Refreshing, not to know what to expect.]

If you do get the chance I'd recommend it. It's very rewarding, to a point.

What is a DNA 'scan' and have you coordinated with medical to obtain this data safely?

[By now he's used to people not knowing things like that, coming from different worlds.]

It basically means I'd be able to identify anyone with one hundred percent accuracy by using hair, skin cells, saliva, blood, or basically anything else that comes from a person.

[He then addresses the other question.]

And no, I haven't spoken to medical but I can assure you it's perfectly safe and painless. I'd only need to scan your fingertips and take a hair or cheek swab. Something simple, nothing that might hurt anyone.

[Slight amusement in his voice now.]

Is this an official security project or something you're doing on your own time?

Well, a lot of people are lazy.

[A soft slurping sound. Yeah sorry still lemons.]

I'll see if I can generate some interest. Not everybody on this ship can be lazy, right?

[She hopes.]

Well, there are always the ones you just can't catch.

I've informed a few other officers, but it's really just an idea for now. The plan was to see how it went over with the general populace before actually getting started.

No, that won't be necessary.

[Norman had counted on at least one sarcastic remark when he'd decided to make the announcement. Well, here it is then. Unless this guy's really being serious.]

Couldn't hurt, though.

[He added, only slightly serious.]
