Someone with your best interests in mind. You want me to make a case for my authority? Not going to happen. But if you want to look at this as an opportunity to learn why it's a very bad idea, I'm at your disposal.

If you have a point, make it. Do not dance around the issue with unsupported warnings. The "smiley" creature does enough of that.

Go looking for what? Where have people gone that they do not come back or come back missing parts of themselves?

You still gotta give them. It's like telling your kids the stove is hot. They're gonna touch it either way--this time, when they come back after getting burned, they might resent you for it but they're gonna be more willing to listen.

They go into the ship. They go looking for the smile, for answers, for a way out. They go looking for a fight, or they go looking for lost friends. Some of them get messed up, some of them go mad walking through looping corridors with no sense of time, and the rest--well, they disappear.

A point.

Wandering off into the ship without fail equals one of these things:

Disappearing

1/ You get lost in the corridors, and with no way back, you perish when the jump comes. Dying that way fractures your pain across time, so that we're still hearing your screams years later. You get melted into a pile of indistinguishable goo, and the only thing that survives is your nanotech.

2/ You fall down a black hole. The best explanation for this so far is that you fall into some distant part of the ship with enough impact to kill you even if you're some immortal rock monster. Your body lies alone in the dark, undiscovered--until we jump, and then you get turned into dust like everything else.

3/ You come across the mutations. Either intentionally or accidentally, since some of the idiots round here go looking for the fight. You get eaten painfully to death.

Coming back

1/ Best option, you get lost in the corridors and you come back. The ship messes with you while you're out there. Time doesn't pass right, and you don't know how long you've been out there. That's why people miss the jump. On top of that, it's creepy as shit, and it'll get to you.

2/ You lose something while you're out there. Everyone does. Everyone. It doesn't matter if you can't tell what it is, they've lost something, so you gotta keep an eye on them. And nobody ever totally trusts them again, but that's another thing. Stark lost an eye. Caffrey--well Caffrey lost a couple of things, but one of those I'm not sure he always had. It took his face. It took another person's control. It takes what you didn't realize you had to lose. You go blind, you lose your voice, you lose your mind, or your ability to tell the straight up truth.

3/ You get turned into a creepy zombie soldier for one 'side' or the other. It - she - is out there, as well as Smiley. The only people who ever survived a jump were like that, and if you have an ounce of self worth you don't wanna end up the same way.

4/ You see something you wish you hadn't seen. It empties out all your insides. That's the best way I have to describe it. You can't ever go back.

There's your point. No storytelling, no sidestepping round the facts. That's it. It's cold, and it's hard, and it will fuck you up--that's what this place does. All that lovey dovey Star Trek crap you think space is just doesn't exist. It's a horror show up here. You need any more than that?

Stay, wait, resist temptation when it comes to us. Because I can tell you now, Claire, based on what that thing's said--it's coming. It might be this month, it might be the next, but we're all outta time.

The only priority now is staying true to who we are, it's not letting it - either of them - win. It's gonna offer us back the people we love, make us an offer that's difficult to refuse. The plan is not to give in, no matter what.

We all have a weakness. I know what mine is. I know what it could offer me, and I know it's not gonna happen. We have to be stronger than that. Contribute, it said. It'll do anything to get you to go out there, say anything, but you know as well as I do that those corridors aren't safe.
