So now that I've read the handy little welcome manual and have established that this place is entirely too creepy--

[ She looks at the screen and sighs. Traces of concern and what might be fear accompany her mostly unamused look. It's probably pretty obvious that she took the time to make herself look at least semi-presentable before contacting the network. Her hair looks generally tucked into place and her usual daily makeup has been applied. ]

Is there anybody here who knows me? [ She expects at least a few yeses. She's practically New York royalty in her world. ] My name is Charlotte Clarke. I want to know if my family's here. The Graysons. Or anybody else from my world, I guess.

[ She basically just doesn't want to be here alone. ]

Also, I need to speak to a doctor. Preferably one who knows what they're doing.

I have heard that there is a "medical bay" on board. [Those words don't go together; excuse him for the terminology fail.] I can offer my services as a Healer, but I am new here as well. I will take no offense if you wish to seek out those who have been aboard longer than I.

Uhm… ( it's pretty obvious that rory is not at all used to casual video chatting, and he looks fairly uncomfortable in a general sort of way. this is just weird. even by his usual standards. )

I'm Rory, and I'm a nurse… if there's no one else. I don't know your family, sorry. ( but then again, his accent pegs him as obviously english, so that might not be surprising either way. )

Yeah, I read about the medical bay. But that involves leaving my room, which is something I'm trying to avoid.

[ She eyes him for a moment, then raises a brow. ] Do you know anything about pregnant girls in space?

[resourcefulgirl]

[ Really? Because that's a totally normal thing where she's from. Like, who even calls people anymore? It's all about skyping and facetime and such. ]

A nurse. [ Well, that's better than nothing, she guesses. ] Does your knowledge extend to pregnancy?

[ There's a pause where she gets quieter, and possibly a little less high-and-mighty. Chances are, her family's not here, and she's really not sure if that's good or bad. ] Don't apologize. It's fine.

In space, no. Pregnancy is something I know a thing or two about. [Hi, father of three, healer of... oh, a few thousand years, give or take.]

[ Well. That's close. ]

I was... [ A short pause. ] I was pregnant at home before I got brought to this place. I'm just concerned about what the — what was it called, the jump? — might have done to my baby.

( he knows what skype is even if he doesn't generally have anyone to call, but calling up random strangers? there's saving the universe, and then there's insecurity. he'll take running for his life, thanks. )

for a second, he looks blank, then almost alarmed. bad coincidence, that's all. he shakes his head slowly. ) A bit. I mean, I'm not a maternity nurse, but I'm okay. Are you pregnant?

[ What wonderful priorities, Rory. ]

I was pregnant. [ There's a pause and she bites at the inside of her lip. ] Then I got kidnapped onto a crazy gigantic spaceship. So I'm not too sure anymore.

[ She really hopes she hasn't lost her baby because that would seriously blow. ] Do you know if hopping universes can cause-- [ A miscarriage? ] something bad?

[And then he's suddenly serious.] It is a valid concern, dear lady, and especially so since even those who have been here longer still have questions about the jump.

[It is an unknown and unknowns are difficult to deal with.] If you will permit it, I will examine you, though I cannot guarantee that I will know anything more than those in the medical bay.

It shouldn't. ( he says flatly, again with the tremor of something else in his face. (amy travelled all over time and space—but it wasn't really her—) he tries very hard to shove it all away. ) Have you had any pain, or any other issues? How far along are you?

[ The fact that he seems to be taking her seriously puts her at ease, somewhat. Although she's still sort of uncertain. She feels like she should be consulting her mother before making any serious medical decisions but-- Well, her mother isn't here, from what she's gathered. So it's probably time to grow up and be an adult. ]

I guess I could do both. You and the medical bay. Just to be positive.

[ Because it is her future kid's health they're talking about. ]

[ You know, you're really not putting her at ease with all these alarmed looks and face tremors. She frowns, but answers anyway. ]

Not really. I've felt kind of sick, but apparently that's normal after arriving here. I'm about a month along.

I hope so. [ She braves a smile. Somebody who's actually introducing themselves as a doctor and not a healer or a nurse. This makes her feel marginally better. ] Do you know anything about how the jump and all this universe hopping and being in space can affect a pregnancy?

[expect]

( look it's not his fault his wife just had a baby. ish. okay. )

If it's only a month… ( he has to cast back a few years. he really doesn't know that much about pregnancy. ) Look out for cramps, and bleeding. Like you're having a period, I suppose.

[ THIS IS SO COMFORTING. ]

Right. I figured period-like symptoms when you're pregnant wasn't healthy. [ And then because that probably sounded really ungrateful: ] Thank you. I appreciate your help.

You don't really fit my usual patient criteria, and since that's emergency care, let's both be thankful for that. ( a little more reassuringly. ) Sorry I can't help more.

In that case, let's hope I never fit your usual patient criteria. [ Emergency care does not sound like fun. ] Don't worry about it. You've been a pretty big help already.

I hope you and the baby are okay. ( he says sincerely enough, and then adds: ) I'm Rory. If you… need anything, or anything.

[Hooo boy. Simon knows it was only a matter of time before this kind of situation arose, and it makes him more nervous than he wants to admit. He is nothing, however, if not professional.]

I...don't, unfortunately. We haven't had a human pregnancy on board to date. Medbay does have the necessary technology and imaging equipment, at least, assuming this...isn't a hypothetical question.

[well this was certainly a surprise seeing charlotte just arrived. it was almost ironic that even with her attempts in trying to be prepared people she knows coming to the tranquility, it was always really unexpected. despite where they were though, somewhere deep down emily was glad to see charlotte.

the thing that stood out for her most about all this though was charlotte's request for a doctor, but emily soon picked up what that was about from stalking a few of her other conversations. the news of the pregnancy was not something she knew about at all but it's easy enough to conclude that charlotte could possibly remember more than her but emily will inquire about that later.

for the time being emily just turns on the video feed, looking very relieved to see charlotte] Charlotte— I didn't think I'd see you here, it's good to see a familiar face.

Second actual doctor, though I've gotta say, I think Dr. Tam might be remembering wrong on telling you there hasn't been a human pregnancy on board before. It was before my time, but I saw the files about it.

[ Sorry Charlotte, he'll look over the conversations before he says anything, and this was one of the times he needed to. ]

She left a while back and wasn't exactly in the best shape as far as the pregnancy went if I remember right. But hard to tell if that was the ship or just her body naturally having a few issues. [ A beat. ] How far along? If you don't mind me asking. [ Because screw your hypotheticals. ]
