[Here is Enjolras, lounging in a room that is -- not his, judging by the piles of readers scattered around. He rummages around underneath himself for a moment, finally removing a reader and settling back with a somewhat pleased noise; then turns his attention to the camera, fixing it with an earnest look.]

Bonsoir. Several of you aboard this ship may have become acquainted with my friends and I. At home, we had a group dedicated to talk of politics, law, sometimes culture -- all sorts of things, really. I thought of starting the same sort of thing here. If you would be amenable to it, I am told there will be a party celebrating the recent arrival of one of our friends sometime soon. We might try and implement this group there, it is as good a time as any.

If you wish to come, you may let me know here, or ask for Enjolras, Combeferre, or Courfeyrac. Any one of us can surely answer your questions, if there is interest.

[And Combeferre is sorting piles around while Enjolras makes his post, then turns to offer him a small smile when that is finished.]

Well. We certainly should have a start. There are so many things that could be done here to improve life over all.

[He's thinking, for example, of that execution. War criminals though they were, capitol punishment is still wrong, morally, and it had bothered him to not be able to take a stand, and still does a few months later. Combeferre's lack of action in regard to that disturbs him. ]

Sometimes I think that I am getting too far from my normal self. It will be good to revive old interests and see if we might effect even small changes on this ship. We have such relative freedom but... the lack of structure has allowed for some horrors to happen.

It certainly has. [He purses his lips a bit, thoughts running along much the same lines as Combeferre.]

Perhaps, if there is interest, we may make a start at putting some laws into place.

A group dedicated to talking about politics, law and culture. [ He sounds completely nonplussed. ] May I ask what you do when you aren't having parties and talking?

Is it alright to come along even if you don't really know much about the topic?

At home, we attended class. We also fought for the rights of the people.

Certainly. How else might one learn?

[Bahorel is still notably unfamiliar with the abilities of the small communications device, so one's view is closely cropped to his face, and the booming voice that emanates from the speakers hit tinny levels from vocal overcompensation. Although his words sound hurt, his dramatic expression is everything but and a grin slowly creeps in to denote the intention of jest.]

And here I thought the flames of Hell would have managed to warm your cold heart, Enjolras. Repurposing the welcome party of your first fallen comrade for your political endeavours...!

[He winces slightly when the feedback cuts through on his own side, and he adjusts his voice accordingly -- somewhat, and not without first shaking the device a little, because clearly he wasn't the one at fault for that godawful noise. A slightly sheepish smile, regardless, and an excited twinkle in his eye.]

Though I do look forward to meeting the rest of this ship, and to see whether or not we are ready to finish what we had hoped to start at home.

There are no endeavours as of yet, my friend, simply ideas. [It would seem that Bahorel's presence has certainly brought a little more life and warmth back into Enjolras, at least publicly -- he, too, is grinning, very nearly a smirk.]

I daresay you will quite enjoy yourself, I have met many interesting people in my time here.

[He has had a mind for the same, of late. Something really did have to be done about... about what they had seen. The very horror of it.

His conversation with Edgeworth had not very much left his mind at ease. Further, he was still rather in a state from his misadventure, and the depth of disquiet that had prompted it.

Perhaps this could help to ground him, and order some of his feelings into solutions. Their group had always functioned in such a way for him, in the past.]

It would be well to have all interested parties together again under on banner, Enjolras. I... harbour some hope that such a group, if assembled, might be able to put this place to the test.

Lawlessness is perhaps too much a dose of freedom, among men.

[It would be better that they had some way of punishing ills, voting in good laws, protecting those on board, new and old and riddling out some of the mysteries that now faced them. Perhaps the cross-section of new and old thought, Earth and Alien, might prove illuminating.]

[Seeing Enjolras continue with this cheerful trend leaves Bahorel warmer in return.] Even peace (or something like it) does well with ideas, as they keep feet nimble and minds alight.

Grantaire speaks of dimmer futures than ever imagined, and Combeferre suggests even brighter ones that have brought us so far that we are able to travel these stars. I would like speaking to the men of both worlds and see how they reconcile what is happening to us here in the now.

So they do, and I think we are in sore need of that.

[There's a slight scoff.] Of course he does, I should not expect that to change so quickly. But I should like it, too, there are men from places one has never dreamed of.

As do I. I do hope Bahorel will not take very much exception to the fact that I have ..altered his event a bit.

[A nod.] It is. We have learned that well enough, certainly.

I'm not talking about at home. You've been here a few jumps, now. I'm curious about how you've used that time.

Why, catching up on things, getting my brothers settled, meeting people. This ship is -- rather difficult to get used to.

It's easier to get used to if you throw yourself into the thick of it. I promise you it wasn't easy for any of us, but what worked for me was digging in and finding out where I stood and what I could really do to help.

Yes, I have been told of the -- ah, security and gunnery teams, they are certainly intriguing. What do you do here, monsieur?

I do a number of things now, but I started off in Communications, working for Uhura to get the department back on its feet. Now I run Comms, I maintain the ship's chapel, help educate the ship's children, and for a while there I chaired the ship's council.

[ But more importantly: ]

You really have no idea who I am?

I have seen your entries on this network, monsieur, but I do not think we have yet met in person. [He avoids using the comms unless he absolutely has to. Business in person is much easier, at least.]

In that case it's nice to meet you. My name is Nathan Petrelli, former Senator for the state of New York--before coming here, of course. Yourself?

[Oh ho, another American. His interest has been caught, and he gives Nathan a not-intentionally-charming, interested smile.]

I am Lucien Enjolras, lately of Paris. It is a pleasure to meet you as well, monsieur.

Paris--that explains it. [ He is not saying what it explains. Nope. ] My French isn't too bad, but the network device would translate it, which defeats the point, I think. What were you studying?

Explains what? [TOO BAD, Nathan.] I studied law, I was due to take the bar again at the end of June.

[ ~~The interest in talking about things rather than doing them.~~ Fortunately for Nathan, a decade of working as a prosecutor, and more years in politics, have made sure he's always ready with an alternative retort. ]

Explains your fascination with culture, and the people on this ship. It's charming. You failed the first time? That's not that unusual. I think if I'd failed the first time my pop would have dragged me down Broadway by my hair.

[~~Excuse you, rude. >:| You would be hesitant if you'd just gotten all your friends killed, too.~~]

Charming? I am simply curious, is all. [There's a slight shrug.] My father cared very little for what I did; perhaps if he had known I did not pass he would have expected me to come home.

[ ~~Most innocent whistles.~~ ]

I'm from New York. I'm not sure what you've heard about it, but people there are usually much too busy to pay much attention to others. So yes, charming. To me, anyway.

Where was home, when you weren't studying in Paris?
